A blown up core will go $4-500. A good one will go for 2-3 times that, depending on body style. B/E units (really only a tail shaft swap) are the biggest dollar ones. Earlier B stuff isnt as bad. But, in terms of strength, a 23 spline will hold very close to the same power.

I will assume by your name you have a small block, dont use an 18 spline, the 23 will be cheaper and easier to find a bellhousing, plus you dont need it.In fact you can do what i and many others here, get an 833OD out of a 80-90's dodge pickup, same tranny but 4th is overdrive. They have to pads for both B@ E body shifters, you may have to drill the pads and tap for the E body mount but thats easy. Its aluminum case which save wieght as well

I will be looking for a 4spd, how plentiful are the 833OD units and what could I expect to pay for one. I will be converting my '70 Challenger from a 904 and realise that many other parts are required. Will the Hurst pistol grip shifter bolt up to one of these 4spd's. If I get one with a bellhousing and fittings can they be adapted to a Challenger?
