OK.  So it sounds like this pump, although incorrect for a 440, could be made to work by simply replacing the small block brackets with the big block type, right?

Also, what's the difference between a small and big block pump? Is the big block pump a bit stouter to compensate for the extra weight of a heavier motor?

If that's the case, I may just wait for the correct pump to come along rather that have an inadequate pump get overworked.

The difference is in the brackets. But I usually see the complete setups (pumps and brackets) at the swap meets. If That's a good pump cheap, get it.
