I just ordered one for $29 + freight + tax.   I also just found this kit at Summit from TCI.  Its perfect for our needs, looks like it needs another pressure switch for OD, but pretty nice.  Not cheap, but not crazy either.

Did you order one from Trans Center at that price?

Dogg thats a really interesting dilema.  I hadn't heard that the trans crossmember interfered with the speedo cable.  I plan on installing a VSS from an 89 truck, which will really make it a PIA if you can't get it away from the crossmember.  I find it kind of hard to believe that moving the motor back all of a 1/4" will make much of a difference in that clearance.

But its a good idea to move it back just for weight distribution anyway.  I've heard that you can angle the original shaft and just mock up a lower pivot point for the shaft to get it away from the trans body and it will still work fine.   This is from 1WildRT out in Cali, that did it to Ransom's 70 vert.

Thats what I'm going to try.  If that don't work, I've been looking at some cable shift options

Let us know how it progresses.

how about if you were to move the lower pivot point on the trans case forward and use either the boss where the 2wd strut rod attaches (boss behind the cooler return fitting) or the service boss just forward of the cooler return fitting to attach your lower mounting bracket to. Both of these bosses have a lot of material that could be drilled out for a plastic bushing. Then make the rod from the shifter longer and the rod from the bellcrank shorter accordingly. I think the center console would still cover the access hole where the bellcrank would go through the tunnel.

I already had put a 4 speed hump in mine so I'll have some extra room to work out the shifter stuff, I would like to run the slap stick also with a stock or slightly modified console as opposed to the hurst dual gate I was running before

I found a link to the brackets to bolt on the cable at Rocket Industries here:

Which bracket were you looking at: BM10494 or BM10499?

BM10499 (front pull)  would be the easiest to install. I've always used front entry cables since they are easy to install away from the headers. The front entry would also work better to connect for the "push forward for PARK" Slap-stik shifter.

Never say "keep it forever"  right?

Owner since 1978 and counting . Nonetheless, a definite thanks for this effort. I'm paying close attention.

Sweet, that is looking great Rob.  I was just wondering: Would there need to be some type of coating on the tranny to keep the linkage from wearing a hole from vibration?  Also, does that setup still clear the floor?

Thanks for all of the hard work finding a way to make this possible.   :2thumbs:

The lower mount will keep the rod from touching the tranny. There is enough room to pass between the hump and the trans.
It is even with the torsion bar so it shouldn't hit the floor.

Sounds great   :2thumbs:
