Thanks TTman. I've did some searching and I think I'm getting confused..........

Is the A518 a 727 with an OD on the tailshaft (or replacement of the tailshaft) or a totally complete different trans?

Alot of the internal parts are the same but it is not a "727 with an OD put on the back of it" . The case is way different(not a 727 case)
It is referred to as a 727 Overdrive but that is just "lingo"
the A500 is a "904 Overdrive" the OD section between the two is the same and is basically interchangable , the A500 having less OD clutches.

I would be glad to but a core and shipping would have to be a problem.

Shipping wouldn't be bad. Be about $200 USD for 1-2 weeks. I'm in no rush and would love some of your work.
It wouldn't be a stock rebuild with a shift kit in it to make it shift firm.

By core do you mean a "donor trans to rebuild" ?

Every 1990 model should be a non lock up . 1991  to 1991 1/2 it is not so sure of a non lock up.
I have been keeping my eyes open for one for a year now , but I haven't been  looking real hard.

Are you sure about that shipping ? I have had higher qoutes than that for shipping a transmission state to state. :clueless:

How much do the transmissions weigh?

That's way too much $$$  A 727 weighs around 150 Lbs. I am not sure about a 518 , it isn't alittle more I am sure. I would probably be about $1000 on the rebuild with you suppling a core and you suppling the converter. It would handle 500 HP for sure.

That's a great price. Year One has one for $1950. Getting better......lol

What converter would I need.
I never get the converter side of things right, well, I mean it confuses the shlt outta me. lol

What determines what converter I will need? Cam, hp? Torque? Usage?  :dunno:

I would order a custom one from Coan or PTC

Yep , all the above.
I am going to post a thread on a converter cut apart to show everyone what they look like on the inside.
