That is why I was asking about specs? Where did you see they were for 600HP?

http://www.tciauto.com/transmissions/transmissions_super_streetfighter.htm#applications

Basically just the next upgrade in transmissions. But if they're handling that kind of horsepower with a lock up the next transmissions down should handle 450hp easily. Should I look at one of the top trans or is that overkill.

I'd eventually like to tickle a little more hp out of the Cuda. (one day)  :walkaway:

What's the difference between electronic and not? Like electrically run items?

I would call them with questions , the decriptions I see are too universal ( GM,Ford etc).I don't see where it says "518 lock up 600HP rating". :dunno:

It doesn't, in the link there's the application chart that says A518 and only shows the part number for lock up.
All the specific transmission ranges (Street Fighter, Super Street fighter etc) are rated to 300, 450 or 600hp.

I just talked to the tech guy at TCI and he said all A518's will not work with the factory Slap-stik shifter (which you probably already knew) I thought it was only the Hughes cases. So, that opens the options wide open again.

Do you know anything about SMRtrans? They seem good and the best part is they sell non-lock up.
The tech guy said, he recommends non-lock up for all street use. Non-lock up for track.
Said there will be no noticeable difference at all in 0-60mph, possibly a 0.01 in 60fts etc.

Not sure where I go from here..... :crying:

SMR is a pretty good company. Do you have a link?

Yip, I just got the prices over the phone too, nice guy he is buy the way. Didn't know they were in Canada (eh).

www.smrtrans.com

A518 - Pro-Sportsman (rated 500hp+)

 - $450 for the core.
 - $459 for the converter.
 - $2,296.16 for the Transmission.

Plus about $500 for shipping and $150 for the plastic crate.

Total price = $4,764 USD!!!!??!!!!  :eek4: :crying: F@#K That!!!

They are non-lock up though and custom made to the engines specs perfectly.....
Sheesh, I might just rebuild me 727 and go buy 500 beers instead. lol

Heh, lol, your post count is/was 518.  :naughty: :lol2:
I really want to get a lower gear set though for the 8-3/4. I don't want to be cruising at 2,800rpm with 4.10s.  :crying:

Even 3.23 gears, to me anyhow, are annoying at 70mph cruising speeds.
I will be taking this car (and my Challenger) on highway trips and cruises heaps too.

Right now my 2 serious options are:

 - Rebuild my trans I have now to performance spec and keep the 3.23 ratio.

or

 - Buy a TCI or Hughes trans with a lock-up and 3.91 or 4.10 ratio.

You could also have two sets of tires and wheels and use 3.55 gears , taller ones for when you were going to be on the highway.  :thinkerg:

Too much effort for a daily driver. Most of my driving, when I take it out involves 50/50 highway and city driving.
Thanks for the input though.....perhaps I should look into what 3.23 gears would be like at present for take off.

Maybe they aren't so bad.....hmmm, maybe I'm making myself talk like this to feel better. lol

I think I need to do some more research into lock-up and non lock-up converters.  :chatting:

Yeah, I think the TCI is my best bet, I like them from what I've seen/heard.
Good price, especially compared to SMR. Year One sells the TCI Street Fighter A518 for $1,960.

If you go with a lock up ,make sure the converter bolts are not too long where they bottom out in the converter pad. That will dimple the cover on the inside where the lock up clutch rides and ruin the clutch. (They will probably supply their own shorter bolts). I am going to try to post the thread today about converter internals.

Thanks Terry, I'll let you know what I decide to do on this thread.
I honestly think I'm just going to rebuild the 727 and save big on money.

That's about $1,600 USD minimal in savings....if I went SMR that's about $4,500 savings!?!?!!!  :eek7: :smilielol:

Cheers,
