I've seen the 500 in the junk yard but passed them up because I was hunting 518s. The smaller size "should" make it easier for you to do the same thing. You'll probably have an easier time with the speedometer too. With gas prices the way they are now, I would put in the lock-up style converter 500, if that is the one that you have in storage. (3 pin connector).

Yep, the 500 lock-up is the one I have in storage. Now I have to find a local transmission guy that will go through my 500 for a decent price.
One more question; Since I am using a stock 318 converter in my Challenger, should I be able to use one of the cheaper converters that Mopar offered for the Dakota, like one of these:
lock up performance econo converters for 904
4529403AB 68-92 904/a500 1900-2100 stall 249.00
5007290AB 68-92 904/a500 2250-2350 stall 239.95
P5007291AB 199396 A-904 1900-2100 Stall 239.95
P5007292AB 199396 A-904 2250-2350 stall 249.95
Also any clue what is the difference between the years?
The OD section/housing on a 500 is the same as a 518.
Thanks
