suspension work being done
« on: June 03, 2003 - 01:20:52 PM »
My 72 challenger is at the shop as we speak. It's my first time going there but the place was recommended by the president of the Mopar Power Club of Long ISland, which I'm a member of.  The shop owner has and races 4 mopars, I think at least 2 of them are e-bodies. My problems included bottoming out on dips in the road, excessive wheel hop, and in general a poor front end. Anyways, here is what he found:

He said my torsion bars are shot and he's looking at 5 or so different sizes and picking the best one for my application, 340 engine, I'm guessing around a .920?

He also said the tie rods, idler, etc. are all good but I need all the bushings changed up front and recommended moog rubber over poly-anything. Agree?

I also am going to need ball joints.  I figured I might as well change the shocks as well.

I'm just looking for some opinions on all of this.  Did I miss anything? How much do you think this will cost? I'm guessing $1000-$1500?

the .920 bar will be firm possibly overkill on a 340 , depends on you & the condition of the roads in general, I prefer performance over comfort ;D
The poly & rubber both have adavntages , Poly tends to be harsher & won`t break down over time & may squeak, opposite for rubber

The work is still being done. I'm also having a bent strut bar replaced and I found out that my lower passenger control arm was bent! Time to look for a replacement..... this is getting expensive..........

The car is just about fisnished here is what was done:

replaced all bushings up front
replaced all ball joints
new torsion bars
new KYB's all around
replaced a bent strut rod
replaced a twisted lower control arm
tightened up play in steering box
alignment

I hate the fact that between work and other stuff I can't do any of the work myself! I gues thats what you work for, can't wait to pick it up!

I was just wondering, what does it take to "twist" or bend a lower control arm? Accident only? Can a simple pothole do it?

Does anyone have experience boxing them to make them stronger?
