Heard of it, yes...Never used it. They are really pushing the BBC pin size too. I'd be curious if they do in fact "drop in" to a B block. Most cranks dont. The counterweights are too large, and need to be milled down. This is true for the 440Source mopar pin size cranks, but maybe the saller rod throws dont get as much counterweight. It's also a little misleading when they say "balanced". That means the crank was, not the assembly. It still needs to be balanced. But, prices are in line with a quality forging, not a domestic one, but it may just be cast elsewhere, and machined here..Which is a bonus.

Edit..Looks like MP numberring system, but it's low on pricing..interesting. Are those MP numbers? I didnt see them in the '05 mopar.com catalog...

I have the 440Source 512 stroker kit in my '75 440 block now. It also uses the Chevy rod big end dimentions.

As far as why? :2cents:

My guess would be it simplifies the fit by reducing the required block clearancing. I only had to make one 1/4"x1/2" notch near the oil pickup area (your block may be different though).

The other big reason is Chevy rods are a dime a dozen compared to Mopar specific rods. There are LOTS more choices for custom rod configurations when using the Chevy rods as much as I hate to admit it.

Can you give me some specs on your build and tell me what you think of it so far? I am thinking about getting the 512 or 528 kit and am just doing some research.

thanks

Other than the previously mentioned issues, I like the overall look of the parts in the 512 kit. I have talked with the guys at 440Source about my problems with the main cap and they have been very receptive to working everything out with me. They even gave me a call one day to let me know that they had been having some issues with the adjuster studs on the same particular rocker arm sets that I had got from them with my stroker kit order. They wanted to just confirm my shipping address so they could send me the updated adjusters free of charge. From my dealings with those guys, they are on my good guy list for any future purchases. :2thumbs:

As far as specs go, keep in mind this engine is not completely finished yet and this stuff/specs may change:
- '75 440 block magged, tanked and line bored (for new main caps)
*from 440Source*
- 4.250" stroke crank
- +.055" custom Ross pistons
- 7.1" H beam rods with 2.200" (Chevy) big end and .990 small end
- Clevite "V" series bearings to clear larger champher on new crank
- Childs&Albert Zero Gap rings
- 1.6 Stainless Steel roller rocker set with new shafts (no longer available)
- billet steel dual roller timing chain kit with torrington roller thrust bearing
- billet stainless steel SFI damper
- billet steel main cap set (a note about the required additional machine work is now on their site)
- ARP stud kit for main caps
- Melling high volume oil pump
- complete stainless steel engine/freeze plug kit
*from Indy Cylinder Head*
- 440-SR CNC 295 heads with full CNC port and polish and Max Wedge port size (includes ARP bolts and external oil lines)
- 440-2 single plane intake
- 440-6R aluminum valley cover plate with access panel
- 440-7 cast aluminum valve covers with Indy logo
- 2.125" ceramic coated TTI step headers for 440-SR heads
- 509SW Comp Cams (I think?) hyd cam and lifter kit
- custom cut to fit pushrod kit
- 850cfm Street Demon, vac sec with electric choke
- CSR Proflo aluminum water pump housing
- CSR electric water pump unit
- MSD Billet Distributor
- MSD 6AL
- MSD Super Stock coil
- MSD Super Stock plug wires
*other stuff from other places*
- cheapy chrome auto parts store air filter and tins (just temporary till I make a base plate to make the T/A hood functional)

I know there's more but I can't think of anything else at the moment. The engine is in PA with my car and I'm over here in Puerto Rico. Kinda makes it tricky when I want to check anything out on the car or engine ya know  ;D

REALLY NICE ENGINE !!!

Yes, the 4.15 stroke, and the 4.25 stroke cranks, will both fit in the "lowdeck B" engines, with the 2.199 chev journal, provided you do some fancy footwork in the Oil pickup Boss area for clearance. NOT recommended for the "home hobbyist", or, "jobber machine shop", but it can be done.

Use a RB block, or, megablock, much easier.

However, to do a "B" lowdeck, requires the building of a jig that bolts directly to the oilpan rail, providing a "guide tube" to hold the handbombed endmill/drill, to offset the hole closer to the outside of the block and get it "outa the way". You can then redrill and tap the Oil pickup to accept the 1/2" HEMI pickup, blend and port the Oil feed hole alignment.

RB crank counterweights must be machined down to the 3.950" radius to fit the B blocks. "Depending upon bobweight" calc., this still provides adequate counterweight for balancing internal with no addition of Mallory.

BB Chev journal provides lower bearing speeds.
BB pins @ .990" are lighter and PLENTY strong @ 2.750" OAL(common).

Just my 2 cents of useless information.

It was working for me, maybe it went down shortly after I was there? Hope my comp didn't get messed up, but nothing seems to be wrong with it..... :clueless:
