Need fender tag info for that 74 portholed cuda!
« on: August 04, 2006 - 08:57:34 AM »
Help with 74 cuda fender tag codes. Still trying to decode the tag on this portholed cuda and was hoping for some enlightenment! Top of tag fourth character on right is L2.Top of tag fifth character on right is 835. Third line from the top first character is G64. Third line from top second character is 674. So far I have determined that this car was Frosty green metallic with a white vinyl top and a white side stripe. The interior code is A6XW which I thought was white seats,door panels and headliner.  Came back as black on the decoder I used. Anyway  any help is appreciated because the wife has given me Carte Blanche to restore this car back to original!  :woohoo:

 :wow: You are a lucky man my friend.... but you shouldn't worry about putting the car back to original if it is a 318 or 6 cyl. .....tell her it is a HEMI ( :roflsmiley:) and GO TO TOWN!!!  :2thumbs:

You need to get a new decoder.  That is definitly an original White interior car and I can't believe someone took a green car and painted it burnished red metallic.    (brown)
The reason I know is yours is optioned the same way my white car was when it was new except mine didn't have a vinyl top
 Can you post the fender tag?  Just cross out the VIN number.

The inside of the trunk is still the original color as is deep in the door jambs. The person that painted it was pretty thorough including spraying most of the engine bay but the original frosty metallic is still apparent low on the firewall etc.  A local mopar guru says he knows of two other E body cars locally that had porthole windows in them. One Chally that the original owner says were installed by the dealer. :dunno: The windows on this car are supposedly more round than mine. The other I did not get too much info about. I see you didn't have much more luck than me when it came to a few of those codes, hopefully I can get them all so as to return this car to original. THANKS! Rob. :biggrin:

Additional info, one question and one correction;

L2 - Assembly line two
835 ?
674 - Can you look at this one again? It should begin with a letter.
U - Build for US sale
000 - Upper door frame paint - None
A23  Decor package C... Correction, A23 in this postition is the Sheduled Production Date, October 23rd 1973 (1974 model year)

If possible when asking for a decode, post a photo, it helps us help you.  :thumbsup:

T/Ake care,
Barry

Evil your post gave both the wife and I a hearty guffaw! :lol: She has been around me too long and knows what a Hemi looks like. But in the spirit of things maybe I will give it a shot. AlaskanTA I am fairly sure that those numbers are correct, but I will look again after I prop up my peach tree which is resting firmly across the hood right now.(bumper crop this year) I was busy this weekend looking at a 392 hemi which I thought would look good in my 65 Satellite. If it will fit.
