My New Cam Is Finally In!!!!
« on: August 04, 2006 - 02:50:27 PM »
I just installed my new Engle Hyd K-58 cam in my 71 340 Cuda and broke it in today. If it performs near as good as it sounds look out pavement!!!! Have a question......it's been about over a year since I drove the car and I noticed that my oil pressure guage doesn't look like it working???   My memory is going and I can't remember what it read the last time I drove it.....Here's my question is there a sensor someplace :clueless: :clueless:, in the block??? that I can check maybe to see if a wire came loose or if I need a new sensor....The engine was nice and quiet when we broke it in today....no ticks...Etc....so....I really don't think it's the oil pump.......But who knows right!!!
   As Always....Thanks Guys and Gals!!!!

I know in the big blocks, the oil sending unit is in the block, in the back, on top, roughly centered up.... I'm assuming it's in the same place on the small blocks ??? But pretty much every motor has one, question is, where...

The sending unit is on the back for small blocks too (near the distributor).  If you have a gauge installed I can only assume that it is reading from this location.  While it sounds unlikely, if you really don't have any pressure the engine won't last long!  Is oil getting to the rocker arms?

The pressure sending unit is where Matt63 said it was and on the top of it there should be a wire hooked up, if it isnt connected then that most likely is the problem....if the wire is hooked up then your sending unit is probably broken and you will need a new one (around 15 bucks). When you replace the unit, make sure to install the new one with a wrench or YOU WILL BREAK IT (trust me I know :swear:)

no way it would have made it through the break in with out oil pressure , you just need a sender

FYI
Found the problem.................the wire was off the top of my oil pressure sensor. I believe all is now well.

Chryco:
Will certainly let you know how it performs!!!    If it runs near as good as it sounds I will be a happy camper...I think maybe my next job will be to change from my stock "J" heads and add a set of ported heads......maybe 308 castings to see how that comb will work.

Let us know how this cam works for you. I'm interested in this cam also, but not sure how good it would work for me with only 8.5 compression in my 340.
What stall torque converter are you running?

I have a 4 speed in my cuda so I expect it to run pretty well with the new Cam. Will let you all know how it runs..I'm still working on some small things on the car...I redid my brake booster and put on new master cylinder....Just have to bleed my brakes and I'm taking it for a spin!!!
