I recently purchased a fully off the frame full rotisserie restoration 1970 Dodge Challenger. The gentleman that restored this 1970 Challenger was aware it was a WSS model , but he decided to restore it as a tribute R/T challenger. After I got the car and entered the fender tag numbers into the mopar decoder, I found that this was was a WSS model built in hamtramck Michigan on June 24th 1970. When this WSS Challenger was built it was painted tan with tan interior and had a 318 engine 2 barrel with an A904 3 speed auto transmission . It had a full vinyl gator pattern top (black) with bucket sets with a rim horn steering wheel , A/C , wood grain paneling etc. When the gentleman restored it as a tribute R/T Challenger he painted the car Sublime green with R/T strips and with black hood decal .He restored it with a 440 magnum engine and a turbo flight automatic transmission . He restored the rim horn steering wheel , the A/C, the interior , the wood grain on the dash the console and door panels . As far a I can telll all the WSS features the car came with were restored except for the color , engine and transmission. But this 1970 Challenger is built to show car standards and is beautiful runs and sounds great. So according to the mopar decoder, this is one of those 6 WSS Challengers built in Hamtramck Michigan in 1970. I have the pictures of the phases of the restoration and papers. I just found this forum and saw the post on the WSS Challenger and thought I would let you all know there’ is another survivor out there and it’s doing great. If any one has any questions about this one let me know.
