New to board from Castle Rock, CO.
« on: August 07, 2006 - 07:41:05 AM »
WELL HERE I GO AGAIN!
I haven't wrenched on a Challenger in 10 years. But as prices get to be stupid, I figured I better grab myself a 70 Challenger (that's my car)before they get beyond my reach.
At 18 (30 years ago) I bought my first mussel car. I was a child and made the poor choice of a 68 Chebby Camero. In my defense, I was not a slow learner. Shortly there after a guy I met at a party gave me a ride home in his 70 R/T Challenger. It was a 440 four speed car, the sexiest thing I'd ever seen and when he slid his foot off of the clutch at 5 grand, I got my first lesson on what horse power really was. We were slidways all the way through 2nd gear and barked 3rd well. It was three long weeks before I could get that Chebby sold. Since then its been Mopar or no car (or truck!) For the next 20 years I bought, sold, built and crashed many Mopars.
Several years after marrying my 3rd wife  :clueless: and moving to Colorado, I had to sell my last Challenger. Made a grown man cry.
Now that the step-kids are almost grown, I told the wife, it time to get MY CAR. The argument ensued for months. She doesn't GET it, They are not JUST CARS. We love them, we care for them, we bring them back from the brink of death, we know every nut, bot and washer. And like it or not I'm going to have one in the garage  :2thumbs:!
So now I have my 70, She is in as many pieces as is physically possible, completely disassembled. I had to put the  K frame and rear end back in her to get on the trailer. The up shot is, the guy I bought her from knew what he was doing when he took her apart and saved EVERYTHING, not just thrown in a box, bagged and labeled it all. He had also just finished rotisserieing the body. Also a nice job of blasting, removing  the little rust there was and gave her 1 coat of primer/sealer.
It's been a long time, I've forgotten a lot of what I knew and technology has changed most everything. So can I tell you how pleased I was to find a group like you folks?! What a wealth of knowledge. Like it or not your my new best friends. I hope I can give as much as I take from the board. Pics are coming
