Work Completed Week Ending 08/06/06
« on: August 08, 2006 - 06:28:14 AM »
After reading HemiDog's update, I started to reminisce about when we used to do a weekly update where everyone could post what they've done with they're projects or what they've fixed on their finished cars.  I loved reading those threads!  If you all would be interested in doing that again, we can start now.  Then every Monday, whoever gets on first can start the thread (usually titled like this one with the new Sunday date).

So...I guess I'll start.

Since Chryco left Atlanta, nothing has needed to be done on the Challenger (you don't know how awesome it is to say that!)  :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:  But, we did get the charger running and the have been cleaning up the makeshift paintbooth so Red can get back to work on the duster.

Who's next??.....

Well I gave up on the Goodmark fenders, gonna cancel the order and go with the fender I have. I just did not want a fender with alot of repair done to it but I have no choice. A buddy of mine that owns a general repair shop has a '73 Challenger exactly like mine , but his came with a 340 from the factory. He is going to help me get mine together (he even let me drive his last week, that will give you a boost to get yours done!).We are going to try to "cram " on it in the next 4 weeks and get alot of stuff done to it.

Got the trans back from the shop and up in the `69 on Thursday.Took it for a test drive around the block on Saturday but only got half way when the car just died.Turning the key on we didn`t hear the fuel pump working and after checking a few things figured the switch went bad.Having no tools in the car I cut off a piece on wire on a sharp edge and jumped the switch-she fired right up!Drove it back home and no other problems and the trans shifts nice and firm into all gears.
Got the rear sway bar in the `72 and it really seems to improve the handling, not as much understeer. This week I need to concentrate on getting lots of little things finished on the `69 to get it ready for a longer shakedown criuse and then the track!

I was in the process of putting in a new front suspension and exhaust system when a medical problem(heart)waylaid me for 3 weeks. After being cleared to go back to work on the car and fighting the heat I have the right side back together and hope to be about done by this weekend. Then it will be ready for a major cruise which I have not done in a long time.

Checked out the rear in my project cuda and my donor car and decided to keep the donors pumpkin w/3.23 gears vs 2.76 now in the cuda, both are '489's thanks to advise from Chryco Psycho. Sanded more of the body down to bare metal getting ready to order trunk floor & extensions and practicing my welding. :22yikes:

Got most of my 340 engine for the Cuda back together. Ran into plenty of problems with the steel crank needing to be welded up on the journal that had the spun rod bearing and decided to use my spare steel crank rather than have mine welded up. Closed up the rebuilt overdrive transmission for the Cuda and got the bellhousing back from being opened up to accept the larger front bearing retainer. Will try to paint the engine wed. unless I run out of time trying to get the Challenger RT ready to leave for the Mopar nats.

Tueday afternoon, Speedomotive still has not shipped engine, waiting for "pickup" truck maybe.  Conversation was "short" some customer service after the sale right? for $20,000 -

At least were supposed to send the paperwork Monday a week ago - asked about it - their response "I don't know if it was sent.

Did order some Year One new rubber pedals: accel brake clutch parking brake and bezels and fuel pump & regulator - later

Figured out most of the electrical problems on the charger. Decided to turn the car around and back into the garage. When she fired I heard this god awful clicking noise so I shut it down. Turned out it was the head light motor. Now I have to rebuild that. This car is a challenge.
