The black smoke came as I was trying to adjust the screws....Obviously not knowing what I was really doing!!!  Once I followed Chryco and Oldschool's advice the car ran great.....No more black smoke.....obviously I believe that I had the mixture WAY TO RICH!!!!  :banghead: :banghead:

I do not know if they can be bought separately.  The o-rings are flat also.  They are not rounded like the ones in the Help section at a parts house. Will the round ones fit?  I don't know.  I have never tried them.

If you can get to the crack entirely use JB Weld to fill the crack.  When it cures just sand it to shape.  Where is your carb body cracked?

I have not heard anything good or bad about these guys.  They may have parts or services you need.

This is a good one from the Imperial club on Thermoquads.

You are welcome.  Page 13 of the repair manual deals with the o-rings.  About the ambition pills; if you find some, please share.

Do I have this correct as to the TQ operation :clueless: :clueless:.....When the engine is cold the door on the top at the front of the carb should be completely closed over due to the hot air choke....and when the engine warms up this door should open up and be almost straight up and down so you can look right inside the carb......In Bullitt99's second picture of the carb there is an excellent picture of this door I'm talking about.
Here is my problem / question.....this door is closed over when cold.....but when the engine get's warm it still is closed over and doesn't ever open up :feedback: I have the original hot air choke hooked up.......Is this the way it should work or should I be adjusting something / somplace :clueless: I just had the carb rebuilt and it looks great...If only I could now get it to work properly :stomp:
   Thanks "Tim"

Tim, The oly time the choke "DOOR" shoudl be completely closed is at initial COLD set, before the engine even starts, As soon as there is vacuum the door is pulled open a little by the choke pull off (an external diaphram on the right rear of carb)  & as heat builds the choke spring should pull it open the rest of the way. Sounds like you have some likage issues or a VERY bad choke spring. There is some info on the setup at ALLPAR but it doe not get into problem solving http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/290/page08.htm
Familiarize yourself with everything & see what you have to do to manually open the choke with the car off, This may lead you to discover where the problem lies.

I was just going thru this post. Keep in mind that there was a early '71 T-Q. One of the numbers are 4972S. That number series where on very early 340's. How you can tell is the idle mixture screws are on a angle outward from each other. As far as your port, that should be for your vaccum advance and the back two, one for the pull off & the other to the air cleaner.Hope that helps some...P.S. performance wise the early '71 is a litle better than the later..

Hey guys - I'm trying to revive this thread and get the pics re-attached. Really could use TQ pics  - both schematics (mopar-or-no-car), vacuum commections (bullitt) and maybe even some pics of your TQ on a 318, FRONT & BACK. Any help would be appreciated!!!
