A/C Heater Box rebuild
« on: August 11, 2006 - 01:56:26 PM »
I have a 74 Challenger A/C - Heater box. I want to restore the box while my dash is out. Does anyone have an exploded view of these A/C Boxes??
I have taken 1 or 2 apart in the past and never could get the doors right... :swear:
Thanks  :wavingflag:

actually, that image was shrunk for other illustrative purposes. The pic was taken from the parts manual and I can get you the full page shot which should show you most everything

Can I get a pic too... I have my out of the car and ready to be rebuilt but I am afraid I will screw something up. It looks pretty good on the outside but I am scared of those doors too! PLEASE DO A WRITEUP ON THIS... so I dont screw mine up! HA! :roflsmiley:

2challengers2 - Where are you getting your Evaporator core from? I have only found them on ebay and they are like $225.00. The heater core is also like $80.00....

Can I get mine rebuilt if they are decent?

Hey mike
I might be interested in the actuators if 2challengers2 doesn't need them. I'm about to take mine apart, it's a mess.
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it!

Actually I have a long list of parts that I need to add to my "Tylers Leftovers" ad. I should update that list today

I just went thur a rebuild with my heater box.  The A/C core was tested with a tub of water and compressed air.  No leaks.  The heater core was a different story.  I was able to get one from AutoZone for about $54.00.  It is the same one from year one for about $80.00.  I have a section on the box in my site labeled  "Repairing Heater Box" ...July 2006.  Site is   http://big-dog.us/challenger/   Good luck. David   PS. You can tell that my box must have been jammed into the firewall at one time since several spots were broken.............

Mike, Thanks for the diagram.  I just bought a new heater core. $72.00. (should have went to auto zone). I'm going to tackle this on Sunday. I'll take some pics for anyone else that needs them....
**** I also won a kit on e-bay for the heater box doors. It has seals and new pre-cut foam for the doors.
