Space saver spare
« on: August 12, 2006 - 10:05:11 AM »
First time user - I hope I get this right!
My 70 Challenger conv. needs a space saver spare.  From what i have read, All space savers were 14".  Is this true - even for a car with 15" rally wheels as mine has?  There are some 15" goodyears available on e bay that say they came from e bodies.  Before I decide what to do, I need some advice.
Thanks

There were all 14". Several folks sell them on Ebay, but they are not the right ones most of the time. They also used two different kinds in 1970, what is the scheduled production date of your car?

Thanks for the info.
The car was built on 11/26/69.
On another subject - would this car with this build date have a radio with thumb wheels or knobs?
Thanks

It depends, what is your radio code? R11, R22 or R35?

I will look into the spare stuff tommorow and get back to you unless FY1 beats me to it.  ;)

The R35 AM / FM radio was thumbwheel.

On the space saver spares, they were made by BF Goodrich, the earlier cars used  7.35x14 and 7.75X14, and sometime during the year they switched to E78x14 and F78x14.

There was an article in the latest Mopar Collectors guide about correct spares for our verts.

Hey - Thanks
NICE CAR!!!  Just like mine except mine has black sun visors.  Which is correct? - probably yours and I need to get white ones!
What do you use on your paint to keep it in top condition?

Should be white visors with a white interior.

My paint is 17yrs old, I just keep spot waxing instead of washing, but I also try very hard not to get it dirty or drive in rain.

Alaskin-ta is right on the spare, and there right on the sun visors,i use streak free glass cleaner and no water or chemicals to clean the vert,as far as wax its your choice.
