Breakdown at Nats left me with no power (HELP)
« on: August 14, 2006 - 09:11:46 PM »
Sat. night in heath 2 blocks from the hotel the chally stalled, it restarted rather sluggish, the ammeter pegged out at full charge then died.  The lights work, flashers work, brakes work, but no turn signals or dome light.  Changed alternator and VR.  No difference.  I have 12volts to the starter relay at the connection on the positive batt cable.  Do you think that it is the relay or the ign sw.  I have no sound at all when I try to start it and no inter. lights.   The fact that there is no turn signals makes me think ign.  switch.   But would it kill a car instantly like that?  When we hold the key in start mode and put a screw driver across the relay it will spark and crank but wont start.  This car starts with just the touch of the key on any given day.  Need help. Thanks  Doc.
Finally, a 4 speed!

the 2 places to check are the ammeter & the fusable link between the starter relay & the firewall on the main power feed , 1 of them should be the problem

Chryco was right again.   2 pieces were shot.  The fusible link at the starter relay and the ignition switch plug near  the clutch peddle were both bad.   The plug was burnt. Good old chrysler electronics.
