Up to Auto Rust
« on: August 18, 2006 - 04:34:56 PM »
Here is the 70 set to go up to Auto Rust Technicians in RI.  Frame rust, floors, and some body rust will be repaired.  It will also get torque boxes and frame connectors.   Might as well stiffen things up as the 440 will tax the body slightly more than its ole' stock Slant 6 did!

Did they give you any estimates as to what it's going to cost? Just curious because I need some work done, and if they're reasonable, I'd rather take it to someone like them, than to let the local hacks loose on it.

it is what it is....they have a shop rate for labor and you pay for the parts you need.  Floors and such are available, but stuff they don't have, they can make.  All the rail caps are there of course.  I'm expecting to be in the $2500 range for rust / frame repairs.

They can't quote a job, because each is different.  But they can tell you what a similar repair was done for.  I've heard nothing but great reports about these guys....I'm confident all should go well.

this is the MOST important part of the resto....getting the car structurally sound....all the rest is bolt-ons.

I met the Autorust guys today.  They brought their display booth to Moparfest here in Ontario.  They seem very honest, straightforward and friendly.  If you are looking to make your car structurally sound without doing a full-scale $100K resto these are the right guys.  I'm going to send my car there for frame work too.

Also, I compared the ART torque boxes to the re-pops that Harms and other vendors sell.  The ART ones are not factory correct but they are way stronger with heavier gauge steel. The "factory" ones felt like paper when I picked them up.
