I intend to replace the 340 in my Challenger in the not so far future, and the 6.1 Hemi is one of the hotter ideas i have for a replacement.
But it's sort of pricey, and when it comes to bang for the buck, a stroked LA like the 402 seems to be better.
Then, i've noticed that Mopar crates don't have the best reputation concerning build quality, also here at CCC in for instance the thread
Best crate motorAlso, fuel economy is maybe better with the 6.1?
Maybe have a 6.1 pulled out of a wrecked SRT-8?
Anyone who have an idea of what this might cost, and what i should be prepared to fork out for in extra expences?
Is the 5 speed tranny worth getting also, or should i keep the 727 and get a Gear Vendor (After NZ440R/T makes it work with autoshift)?
Then there's the option of having a engine built. I live in Norway, and engine shops here is expensive.
A rebuild of a old engine costs the same as two crates... So maybe have a motor built by a machine shop in the states?
With a limit of $7000 (I got shipping and norwegian taxes to think of too), and the use is purely street and the occasional red light drag race. Pump gas choices are 92, 95 and 98 octane. I would like to go beyond 400 HP.
I would really be glad to get some input from you guys on this!
