Work done week ending 8/20/06.
« on: August 21, 2006 - 09:06:32 AM »
I will start off by saying I don't have any pictures, but I was able to spray my sound deading material along with the insulation in to the interior of the car.  I choose to use a product called Lizard Skin.  It went on pretty easily and cleans up with water.  Knowing what I do now, I would have shot this stuff before painting my car though.  At the time I was totally undecided if I was going to use a Dynamat material or sprayed insulator.  The reason I would have done it before painting my car is that Lizzard skin opimally should be sprayed on both sides of the sheet metal and that it can be painted over also.   :clueless:

After I got the Lizzard Skin sprayed on, I bolted in my e-brake assembly, pedals, ac/heater box, and loosely hung my steering column.  :woo:

OOOOHHH!  I also put in my tail lights!  :jumping:

I got:
the front fenders mounted
front valance mounted
front headlight/grill piece mounted
'glass hood fits pretty good (still have to get the scoop mounted to it)

I also need a few parts if you would check in the parts wanted section

Plus a pic of my buddy Bob's '73 340  that is helping me on mine. :cooldancing:

How did you like the Lizard Skin?  Was it hard to put on?  I was thinking of using it myself when the time comes (I can almost see it!).

The Lizard Skin is really easy to put on.  The spray gun they offer is a must.  It is designed to work with the product because it is so thick.  The gun comes with some attachments to reach those hard to get places too.  With what is included, I had no problem getting into all the areas of the car.  :ylsuper:

The real test will be when I get the car on the road, but I can all ready tell that the panels have a much different sound when you tap them.

I sprayed just the interior including the doors, roof, quarters, and trunk.  I will probably paint over the trunk to give it the original look.  I put two thick coats of the SC (sound control) and one thick coat of the ceramic insulator on.  They recommended buying two buckets of the SC and three of the ceramic insulator to do a midsized car.  I would agree if you going to be able to spray the under carriage.   With what I did, I had about a half bucket of SC and one full bucket of the ceramic insulator left over.

HemiDog,

Looks like you are making good progress.  Also, Does the Lizard Skin look like undercoating when its applied.  I am looking for something to recoat the inside rear quarters that were replaced to give it that original factory undercoat look.

It does look like undercoat.  Kind of feels like it too when it dries.  The texture can be controled by the gun they sell by turning the nossel in and out to restrict the amount of material being blown out.  You can adjust it by the air pressure too.  I will try to snap a shot to show it tonight.

It has been a busy week for me with hardly any e-body news but what has kept me busy...... Last Tues. night my wife called for me to come change a flat for her on our CLASSIC minivan, weeeeeeeell when I got there seems the flat had been caused by about 6" of curb being crammed into the RF wheel & tire, I thought this would be a simple FIX until Sat. When I pulled ole Bessie out of the garage & got a good look at the suspension, seems that '98 Caravans don't take to kindly to goin curb jumpin. Mon. went to see the insurance agent & in the mean time started lookin for a good second car for my daughter. Welcome the newest member to the family.

From a mom's perspective....I was about that desperate too at one point.  Would have gladly ran it into a curb to get rid of the thing!  :roflsmiley:  I was sooo glad when the minivan era was over in our family!  Tell your wife I said congratulations!!  Looks like a very nice sebring! :clapping:
