This is the fender that had the patch panel welded to the bottom of it.

I gave up on getting my Goodmark one  :swear:

The rear quarter was replaced, I think the guy that helped me on that did not put the quarter on with the body line in the right place.
I know I am probably going to have to live with them both , I just thought I would throw this out and see what if any advice I could get.

It looks like the passenger side door can come down by at least 1/4 inch (if not more). The top of the door doesn't quite line up with the window sill.

As for the drivers side... hmm. Can the front of the fender be brought down slightly? That might help bring the gaps at the bottom closer to being even.

The picture is deceiving. The door could be dropped maybe an 1/8th of an inch .

this may sound dumb,,, but I've seen a situation similar to that where the person "custom fitted" the gaps by cutting and welding 1/8" round stock onto the edge of the doors to even out the gaps. At the very least it's a thought  :thinkerg:

It is obvious now that I should have mounted the fender to the car when I welded on the repair panel to set the alignment to the door. :hyper:

The door to quarter line can be adjusted somewhat better and could always be mudded and sanded out to get the line closer. The fender looks like the bottom could be pulled back more, sometimes it takes a little persuasionwith a 2x4 to pry it back and then tighten the bolts. Also puting a shim behind the front bolt on the bottom of the fender will move the back edge closer to the door.

Post some pics that show the problem at a distance.  Not of the whole car but further away.  I can't tell what is making you gap problem.  It can be fixed, I assure you. If you have to add material to close in the gaps put a bead of weld on it.  Not to mean offense to a previous post but adding mud to the door edge is risky.  It does not take much to chip the bondo off.

I was always told to start at the back and work forward.  If the quarter isn't right, then the job just got a whole lot harder.  I would start at the quarter, then the door, then the fender.

I think the 1/4 skin may just be a typical skin. I had one that the line was 1/8" too high. Even measuring the original..the kicker was, an identical part number had it in the right spot the next time I bought them. I'd line up the tops and bottoms of th edoor and 1/4 first. Then address the body line. The door should be the guide. You will mess up the paint to get it decent, but that line on a Challenger is so obvious, not fixing it would really be a big deal. At least to me. As far as the fender patch, like they said, start at the back and work forward. If the patch is welded crooked, can you cut it off and reweld? I make a template of whatever is left of the original line, before I cut the rust out..Then you have a guide. If not, you could just un fold the fender crimp, and add some metal to get the right profile. A little filler is ok, but I wouldnt sculpt too much there, it will crack after some racing.

Jerod did something similar to this on "Muscle Car" to the project Camaro.  He simply welded a bead on the edge and ground it down.  Of course he wasn't dealing with such a large gap, so the added stock material might be needed. Looked good when he was done.
