People leaving their indicators on after coming off a highway or ramp while I'm sitting there to turn. You think they're going to turn into the street you're exiting but they don't know or forgot to turn their indicators off, I wait for them to get close and sure enough they drive straight past me indicator on and all......f@#ken idiots.

OK,

This is fresh in my brain since it just happened.  You are driving your classic car on the hiway at night with the windows down... and it's amazing to notice how many people flick their cigarettes out the window. You see the red sparks bouncing on the pavement, and you just hope none of them make it into your interior.  :22yikes:  :22yikes:  :22yikes:   Doesn't anybody use an ashtray anymore??    :villagers:

People who have to slow down before they get in the deceleration lane. It's called the "deceleration lane" for a reason. If it doesn't give you enough room to safely slow down, get your brakes checked.

People:
- People who make right hand turns from the travel lane when there is a perfectly healthy/clean should to use.

- People who speed up to prevent you from passing, even though they have no hope of stopping you. (On both highway and secondary roads)

- People who tailgate even though you're doing twice...*ahem*... I mean a few miles above posted speed limit.

Cars:
- Ricers who drive automatics yet have a tach with a shift light.

- Cars with the spinners, more specifically the ones with the $20 wal-mart spinners where three spin and the fourth is chronically stuck.

- Cars with 12way power, telescoping, defrosting, heated, air-conditioned, auto-tinting side mirrors.

Roads:
- On/Off ramps with no merge zones (PA turnpike is big on my list here.)

- Exit signs that tell you street name and city, but not road number.

- New Jersey Jughandles.

OK....for me...it's the people who can't handle driving and talking on the cell phone at the same time.  It's gonna take an accident for them to realize they just aren't that skilled. I love the folks driving manual transmission cars and talking on the phone (without a headset).  :screwy:

Funny you should say that.

I've never owned an automatic car... and I'm always on my cell phone due to work. I've yet to get into an accident because of it and ive gotten pretty adept at shifting and driving with my right hand, while holding the phone with the left.

Best part is, we have Ruts in the road (depressions in the asphault from studded tires/frost heaves) and they throw the car around alot.. you have to drive on the lines (highest part of the ruts) to avoid it.

Maybe I am a bit crazy...

That reminded me of a couple of incidents that happened to me while on patrol. I was sitting at a stoplight in my patrol car one day and just after my light turned green a guy in a pickup truck cruised right through the intersection while talking on his cell phone, totally oblivious to the fact that he had a red light or that there was even a police car sitting there! When I pulled him over he acknowledged that he had paid absolutely no attention to the light, and had no idea if it was red or green! Another time I saw a van aproaching from the opposite direction at night, with no headlights on. I flashed my headlights at the vehicle several times with no effect. After the van passed I turned around and turned on my overhead lights. I followed that van for 3 blocks before finally turning on my siren to get it to pull over. When I approached the van the lady driving was STILL talking on her cell phone, and I had to tell her to hang up! That woman claimed that she never saw me flash my headlights at her, and had no idea that she was driving without her headlights on. She didn't even know I was behind her with my emergency lights flashing until I used my siren.

Exactly!!  When I see someone do something really stupid in traffic, I automatically look to see if they are on their cell phone. About 90% of the time they are on their phone.  Then again, I see people driving completely normal while on their phones, too.  I just think some people's brains multitask better than others.  Unfortunately, a lot of folks are dying because of it.  OK....rant off.

A lot of states are enacting laws that if you are driving while using a cell phone, it has to be one that is a hands free. Before you know it, half the states will be involved with a law like it. Then again, I'm not really sure how much it can really make a difference of people paying attention while driving.

I don't think it would make much difference. It just goes back to that chewing bubblegum and walking at the same time thing, some people just can't manage it!
