Never seen this in a low voltage DC application, but in the 110Volt AC world a bulb filament can burn out, short to ground & cause breakers/fuses to blow.  :2cents:

Good News: Its fixed.
Bad News: I missed my track outing.  :villagers:
Good News: Next one is the 27th
Better News: The conditions are rapidly improving here, density alitutde is about half what it was last time (5,200ft) which, from what I've read is about a half second...ill be happy with two tenths, plus my mods. So it should tear into 13s very easily....shooting for mid :cooldancing:

I always get a certain satifaction when I can track down and kill electrical shorts.

Ya know goody, 318s have really skinny little rods that let go when you least expect it

I'm not, not going to run it based on the rods. It'll be fine. I've smacked a few valves with this motor and ran it hard daily. It's a determined little mill

I'm piecing together is bigger brother piece by piece.  Roller Hyd cam, Mag Eddied headed MP 360 in the works.  :grinyes:

uuum... an la 318 has the same rods as a 340 or 360. Much better rods than the best stock 350 chebby rods. even the 273 and 68 318 rods witch are smaller are a better rod than anything GM used. I have spun the 273 rods to 6500 in an internaly balanced 360 circle track motor without problems. if a mild rebuildt 318 fails i would be willing to bet it isnt a rod failure.in fact ive never had a sb mopar that wasnt completely worn out blow due to anything but valve breakage. you go goody!

My father use to drive a few mopars several years ago for police work, most of them with 318's.  He remembers beating the crap out of the engines and said the 318's were the most reliable engines they had.

340 and 360 rods are thicker and stonger. Keep in mind that the 318s didn't move to the bigger rods until 1976 unless the engine was in a truck or motorhome ect. Every Barracuda 318 I ever took apart had the skinny rods.

as far as being better then chebbies...... :grinyes:

humm?? odd ive had like 4 71 318s and a 70 appart looking for the little rods. i only ever found them in the 2 68 motors ive had apart. all the 71s did have floating pins, i believe that stoped for 72 unless it was a hd truck motor..either way ive proven the skiny ones if balanced will go to 6500 all day long all season long and never cause a problem. I actually re geared that motor for one race so it would spin 7300 on paper, but it could only breathe well enough to pull about 6900 so it slowed me down..there would possibly be worrys with the slugs that goody has already beat up, but if the rods are round they will hold up.

Motor has seen about 30 passes down the 1/4, a few dyno pulls, and about 8,000 hard daily driven miles. If there were any issues with the pistons, im sure I woulda seen them by now.  :poopoke: *knock on wood*  I'm only turning 5,800rpm when i shift outta first. Its not winding all that high.
