HELP!
« on: August 26, 2006 - 07:23:16 PM »
I was working on my GC again today and was getting bored,so I decided to try and start the Chally.I never even tried to start it after buying it 2 years ago and thought it was DOA and was a future resto project, well after 45 mintutes of changing fluids she purred to life-YES!.I drove her down my dirt road and smoked the tires on some of the pavement.I pulled back on to my property and now the tranny is stuck in 1 gear, clutch works fine, please help!!!How do i get it out of first????

Might as well pul the tranny , I doubt you will get the side cover back on under the car , but you can try
probable causes are the sliders / keys in the sychro have popped up to far to allow the collar to slide back over them , often rotating the tranny while rocking the shfiter will get it into neutral again , generally this is caused by worn synchros or excessive end play

you may be able to turn the driveshaft with someone holding the clutch in or with it running on stands & you inside to get it free

the front 3-4 fork is reversable , the rear fork for 1-2 is not it is offset much higher in the tranny to clear the reverse gear
either way you tranny will have the lever style cover which is far more difficult to install , you need to use a long skinny screwdriver to lift the levers over the pin on the end of the forks for the cover to fit into place fully

Now the dilema.Do i have the stock 833 rebuilt?, or put in one of my 833od's?Which I would have to change the bell as well-Argh!.Or put in the new built 340 with 833od and then have to take it all back out when i restore the car.Or just worry about finishing the GC and worry about it when the times comes to restore it too.It would be nice to drive it around since its a 20 footer.too many things to think about............
