My Challenger: Update!!
« on: July 02, 2003 - 10:08:30 AM »
Hey everybody, after working most of my summer making money for my '73, I finally managed to start doing some more to it.  I finished stripping it all down and at 5:30 this morning, I brought it into the local sandblasting shop.  I can't wait until it comes back all clean and almost ready for primer....then the bodywork!!  I'll post some pictures to show the before and after effect when she returns.  ;D

Congrats StreetCharged!  How long will it be at the shop?  Are you going to do the painting yourself or is it going into another shop?  You may have to work many summers if thats the case.  Looking forward to your pictures!

Rev, it's in this shop until tomorrow night.....They go to work fast on their projects.  Then it's coming back to my place so I can finish stripping the roof and the quarters.  When that's completed, it's going off to a bodyman I know and he's going to be laying down the primer and painting around the areas that will be finished as far as bodywork goes.  I'm going with PPG Plum Crazy for the color because I don't wanna have my car the same color as somebody else in this area.  I can't wait until things start coming together.  As far as work goes, yeah, I'll probably be working it off more during the school year, but I'm making really decent pay right now.  Most of my bodywork and the majority of the painting will be finished up by the end of this summer.  Thanks for the replies everybody.  Keep them coming! :)

So - Did you have it sand blasted or media blasted with plastic or glass beads?

Whatever they used, it looks good to me!

Videomagician, I am not 100% sure what they used, but I think I've been finding glass beads while I've been blowing out the left over media.  Yeah, I'm really pleased with how it turned out.  The 1 hour 30 minute job of scraping the undercoating off really helped me out.  Now I need to tend to my rust problems.... ::)

Wow, it looks like they did a great job!  Nice and clean.  We were finding sand for quite a while after we blasted ours...especially after we put the car on a rotisserie and turned it upside down.  That stuff gets everywhere.  Anyway, you're off to a great start!  ;D
