Swapping 727SB to A500?
« on: August 28, 2006 - 07:55:45 PM »
Anyone done one of these swaps? What modifications have to be done to the rear trans mount? Pics if you have them. Did you go lock-up on Non?

I have an A500 lock-up OD trans saved for a rainy day, and I need to know what mods have to be done to the trans mount.

Every 500 ever made is a lock up.Check out this thread, swap to a 500 would be the same as to a 518.

Do you still have the trans install pics or the modification to the mounts or would an aftermarket tubular one work? The wiring will be a snap once its installed. Appreciate the info. I think this will let me keep the gears I'm running.

Be-aware that it will not work with your factory Slap-Stik shifter set up. The linkages hit the very top of the OD trans case. Some have made it work and I'm sure it can't be too hard, just keep it in mind.

Of course you could always go the cable shifter route.  :puke:

Its going in my D100 with colume shift and cable kick-down.

The Cuda would kill anything but a Lenco or a really built 727. I run a 727 with a rear entry cable and CO2 assist PPP shifter, but would gladly trade that for a Lenco.

Sweet, you'll have no worries then I'm sure.

Nice Cuda by the way. I'd stick with a 727 myself any day of the week, just my opinion though.

Link pics reinstalled .I don't think the crossmember pics will help you much for your PU though. I can tell you it is alot easier to put it in a PU than an E body.

Cool. I will check it out. I wanna make this work because the only other option is a 904 and milder gears.

Well its built with way more money in parts than I wanted to spend, and its fully installed in the truck. The shop is just clearancing the cross memmber for the exhaust a little, and if it ever stops raining, I can take her for her first cruise....I will let ya know. It should be the best of both worlds. Low gear A500 with a 3000 stall & 4.56's out back and and full lock-up.

Well, drove it home yestarday. Cooling fan thermostate took a crap, but I had a feeling it stopped working so I had it wired fully on when I left the shop. Shifts nice and firm. Still need to adjust the kick down linkage. It up-shifts way too soon when excelerating. 4th and OD weren't wired in yet so I haven't had a chance to try them. Need to fix the thermostat and get the OD wired in....
