If I remember correctly it just goes into 3rd when i pass the line. I just put it in drive and step on it.. a little wheelspin, back of trottle and then floor it, great for bracket racing, but a bit boring. I would like to step up the gears and close that open rearend. But like I said, need a new case too, so it will cost me.
I'd definately not back off the throttle. That will kill your e/t. Just maybe 'roll' into the four barrels a little more, or get it rolling some before you nail it (talking a couple feet..). What rpm does it shift in, do you have a higher govenor in the trans so it shifts at a higher rpm when you leave it in drive? ....I'd still manually shift it. I didn't get out of second gear in the 1/4 mile, you definately shouldnt be near 3rd in the 1/8th with the same gearing. For some reason i think i read your running a 741 case right now, i'd still run it. It will hold up just fine with what you are running. Its not necessarily 'weak' its just not the strongest out of the ones mopar made. Mopar overengineered a lot of the stuff they put out, you should be fine...
Heres my 318 with 3.91s, 3500stall and some stickies. 1.9 60ft, 8.9 1/8th and its been dropping off at the top end, fuel starvation seems to be a cause at 14.0. The 8th was on target for a 13.90 but it's not keeping up like it should. Always something
. Still messing around with the launch rpm and such, I will be trying a holley 650 d/p it looks like...hopefully get another tenth out of the 60ft once i get it ALL dialed in. I've yet to really 'tune' it by tinkering with timing, jetting and such. Just been tinkering with the air door and pump shot.
