I just ran my '72 Cuda down the track this last weekend at Rt. 66 in Joliet. This is the first time I ran it in over 9 years, and my reaction times show it
. My best run for the weekend was a 13.807 at 98.43mph, with a 60' time of 1.977 through the mufflers. This is with 15 year old 235R60-14 BFG T/A radials! I can't beleive how well they hooked up
. I'm running a 340 with '70 pistons (around 10.0:1 compression), 2.02" valves (the way it came from the factory - its a very early '72 car), a MP 280/.474" lift cam, M1 dual plane intake with a Holley 650DP and old Cyclone aluminum coated headers. The trans is a stock TF727 and I'm running a 3.55 gear with sure-grip. Most of my other runs (when I got traction) were in the 13.9 to 14.2 range.
I'm hooked! While in the staging lanes, all I kept thinking about was what I could do next to get more HP into this engine and get the power to the ground. I'm thinking right now that my first purchase should be a nice set of wheels and sticky tires. I'm running the stock road wheels right now and the track officials insisted that I remove the trim rings... Ugly!!! Besides, they are only 5.5" wide so I can't put any larger tires on them than what I'm already running. I'm considering a set of the all chrome Magnum wheels from the Wheel Guy, 15x8 in the back and 15x7 in the front. That way I can still use the original center caps and they will still look close to stock.
