Watkins Glen AAR Spet 7-10
« on: August 30, 2006 - 07:42:34 PM »
This year at the vintage races at Watkins Glen, there is supposed to be an AAR competing.   A coworker races an old vette and told me.  Family and I plan on camping at the track for the weekend.  The featured cars are Trans AM racers and CAN AM cars.  Should be cool.

No, not Tom, at least I don't think so.  Usually its original factory sponsered race cars that compete in my friends class.  So I am guessing it may be one of the original AAR Cuda cars.  He also mentioned that the Edelbrock family will be there and one of the daughters is racing her car too.

Go to:

to see a list of the groups.  The Trans Am cars will be out on the track anytime you see "Historic Trans Am".   It looks like the feature is 3:30 Sunday.

Though Trans Am cars are featured race cars, there are many cars in many groups that show up.  It should be a blast if you like to see old race cars.  Group 6 T/A would have the trans am cars.  When they feature Group of cars, it usually means a larger number of cars in that group show up to race.  I am pretty new to this, so I don't know everything.  But I am learning.  I am not sure how Tom Quadrini's car stackes up, though from what I have seen from his postes, he is in compliance with most items.

I was at the historics race at Laguna Seca two weeks ago and Vic Edelbrock won the Trans Am race in a 69 Mustang, his daughter Camee drove a Camaro.  Two AAR's were in the paddock and practiced but niether showed up for the race.  One of them is owner/raced by Craig Jackson of Barrett Jackson fame.  Last year a TA owned by Ken Epsman came in second place.  I've been going to the historics at Laguna Seca for 4 years and I can't recommend it more, practice/qualifying on Friday with racing on Sat and Sunday.  We also go out to Pebble Beach  Sunday morning for the Concours D'elegance which has some seriously expensive/rare cares on display.  The next historics race is at Lime Rock this weekend!
