2007 Calendar Voting
« on: September 01, 2006 - 10:11:04 AM »
Unfortunately, I have had to stop the calendar voting.  I have been keeping tabs on the results over the past 24 hours and this morning noticed some peculiarities.  After some investigation, I found that one of the participants had been creating new member accounts and casting votes for his own car.  There were 15 new registrations all for the sole purpose of voting.  He claims all his friends were voting for him, however, it is apparent from the logs that each new member was created every 2 minutes...just long enough to create an account, vote, and logoff...one after the other all from the same IP address.  I may be naive, but I'm not stupid.

So...I have taken down the voting, banned this person from the board and will restart the the Calendar Voting shortly with that participant removed.  I apologize for the inconvience of having to re-vote, but I find this is the only way to get fair results.

By the way...please don't ask your friends to register just to vote.  The spirit of this contest is to have our members (not their friends) choose which cars go into our calendar.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience.

Why would he do that, this is a great place and we don't need someone like that, Laura let us know when we can vote again.

Thanks for all your work Rev! sorry you had to do this over, how about taking the offenders car out of the contest also? Does not deserve being in the contest when caught cheating. Thanks to all for a great site!

He is definately out of the running and his car has been removed from the selection.  The good news for the other participants is that the winning percentage is now going up! :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley:

Rev,

I hate adding more rules, but maybe in the future, say you can't vote unless you have been a member for a few months, or have "X" amount of posts. That would prevent this type of thing.

Laura, The people on this board ought to know how lucky they are to have an admin (and mods) around here who care so much about this place.  You people are really great.  Thanks.... as always.
