    Another Newbe looking for an E body

    Hi all.  I'm from Virgina Beach, Va, and looking for a restorable 70 or 71 challenger that still runs and is street worthy, as I will be driving it when I buy it.  Would love to spend under $20K, the less the better.  Have alot of wishes but with the way the market is I guess beggers cant be choosers.  I've been looking on Ebay, collectorcartrader, and of course on here but being new to the Morpar seen, not sure as to whats a good deal and whats a rip-off.  I have a family and being in the military dont want the hard earned cash going to waste.  Any advise would not only be helpful but very appreciated.

    Welcome to the site, Nate10! :wave:  You should be able to find a nice '70-'71 Challenger for under $20,000.00 rather easily.  I'd say check what other members have for sale right now under the "Cars For Sale" section or check www.cars-on-line.com and see if you find any good deals close to your area through them. :2thumbs:  Let us know how the search goes and if you end up with one cool E-body. :cheers:

    Ok, I know I said I wanted a Challenger but looking around on the net I found a 73 Cuda for just under $20k but not sure as to the actual condition.  Was wonder if anyone was close to it. And being new to Mopar what do you guys think? The only thing that worries me is that it is at a dealership.

    Plus there are alot of these old classics have rust or rot on the frame rails, I ve seen repair kits in mags that i have but does it work and is it road worthy? I know one would have to fix it before driving on it but is is okay after fixing it?

    Welcome, and hope you find your dreamcar. Have sevral Mopars but noon of them had rot in the framrails, and for a $15000-20000 it sure not gonna be that if you dont wanna buy a rare car... :cheers:

    Thanks inot2old.  I lookd at that one he said that the rear qtrs were replaced but when looking at it the mud was pretty thick and the paint job was now where near what he paid for it, tons or swirl marks and sand papre marks.  There was mud marks all over.  and he said that the foors had rust holes that he patched with fiberglass.  It is a real pretty car form 10 or 15 feet but up close and I thinks he wants too much.  There are alot of minor details that just add up to short cuts.   Thats why I wanted a second opion, someone with a little more experince.  I 've had old cars before but never an E body so I dont know all the common trouble spots to look at.

    Hey Nate10,  I'm the Va Beach Challenger owner.  Thanks for the honesty about the condition of the car.  I had to start somewhere with the asking price of the car and like you didn't know how much to ask - was just going with the market.  I would love to have you come over and haggle a price that we can both agree on.  I really need to sale the car and I think we can meet somewhere in the price so we can both be happy.  Please let me know if you are still interested.  Like they say what do I need to do to put you in the car!

    Well guys I am now the PROUD(I really mean proud) owner of a 1970 Dodge Challenger. :jumping:  I'm so excited.  I love driving this car.  It has a few things to work on but other then that it will be my daily driver.  You have seen the car before as I bought it from an owner from this sight, so I thank you for the sight.  I'm glad to be a part of the challenger history.  I have a few questions, so if you could help I'd appreciate some advice:

    1. The car has a Holley 750 carb on it(thats all I know about the carb)with edlebrock intake, and it has a not so smooth idle when in drive and stopped, it also has a slight hesitation off the line.  I have been researching the problem on the sight but dont have the slightest clue on how to adjust the carb.  It also has a heavy gas smell when I drive it and when I shut it off and walk in front of it.  I just changed the spark plugs to platinum ones and it helped a little but not much(it has a MSD ignition on it). I have the orignal carb so I can take it apart and learn on it, maybe?

    2. The hot/cold needle does not go up into the range it moves from cold to low in the range but then stops right inside the range no higher no matter how long or hard I drive it.  Was thinking that the thermostat may be one step to cold, or the gauge is not accurate?

    3. The front windshield has a small leak in the upper passenger side.  The windshield has that sticky black tar stuff around the window, I don't know how to get it off to replace it with the ribben stuff that has been highly recommended on here.  It has a small and I mean small spider crack right where it leaks so could that be the problem?

    4. The windows in the doors dont match up well to the new rubber on the door frames I dont know how to adjust it.  The previous owner said he adjusted the rubber but I cant see how he did that.  Can I adjust the window?

    Being new to the Morpar Muscle car and not knowing all the tricks yet would love some advice.  I have own older poney cars so know my way around engine and can do normal up-keep maintance but when you guys get so indepth in carb details I get so lost.  I really thank you guys for being so helpful in the past and thanks in advance for the tips.

    To get answers to some of your questions, go down into the Tech section and post your questions in the Engine and Go Fast Goodies forum....it will get more visibility from those who could really help you out.  They'll stay with you till you  get it figured out.  :2thumbs:
