Looked today--fender still has original paint---here's what I found on page 174 of the Challenger and Barracuda restoration guide from Motorbooks:
"A bronze colored Pentastar, part #2785540, was used on the lower rear portion of the right front fender of all 1967-71 models, no matter whether they were from Dodge or Plymouth. The only other place emblems were used was on the rear roof sail of the 1970 Challenger SE model. This happened to the 1970 package only, and those models with the formal roof package in 1971 did not use a medallion on the roof."
When I was in high school, my first car, a '73 Barracuda, didn't have that medallion either. So guys....was this a hit-or miss-thing by Chrysler, or did they just want to shave every penny off production costs from '72 forward courtesy of their accounting department?
