    Fair offer for 440-6 4 speed R/T project?

    I had an interesting conversation today with a Mopar guy I have known for quite a while. He has a 440-6 1970 Challenger R/T 4-speed Dana rear project car, no engine or trans, but supposedly the other numbers match. It sat outside for quite a while, and he says it needs patches. The original seats are gone, so not much chance of a matching broadcast sheet. (I will still look)

    Assuming the body numbers and fender tag are present, and assuming it needs a trunk floor, lower quarter patches and a trunk floor and a major restoration in general, any clues on what to offer?

    From memory he thought the car was Go Mango with a burnt orange interior.

    I know that  :useless: but I will be going to look at it tommorow.  :picture:

    I suck at values, so any thoughts are appreciated.  :wave:

    Hard to say withour pics, but if it's a real "V" code it should be around 15K to 20K without motor & trans if the rest of the parts are there.  If it has lots of rust issues, then closer to 10K.

    I dont know if this helps Barry but around here (Wisconsin) I have seen a couple of 70 challenger r/t u-code cars one together, one totally ripped apart both needed total restoration, but all body panels were good. Nether had matching numbers motor or tranny. Both were missing misc. parts. One went for $9500.00 and $9000.00 for the other.

    I think the car has lost a ton a value without having the number's engine and tranny with it. Sorry I can't throw a number at you Barry, but maybe 10K is a good start.  :dunno:

    a true V code car has to be worth more then the U code
     a V code 4 spd is about the only Chall I would sell my Chall to buy

    ...find a top dollar resto, non matching numbers


    ...deduct the cost of a restoration and parts, should leave you with a net price...



    ...my guess is also in the $10-$15K range....especially if the color combo is desireable and the tags are all there...and the big question...HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT  :bigsmile:

    ...ANOTHER THOUGHT PROCESS...you are only buying the bare bones to build a car from and this is probably the smallest expense you will have....so even if you pay a few $$$ too much, you will regain it at a point in time with a good resto...

    I think everyone's within the current ball park figures for that car.  I was going to say expect to pay around $12,500 originally, but I've changed it to $10-15K to include all the variables.

    If Barry doesn't get back here with an update soon he will have to borrow the shoes I got for MEK and post a pic of himself wearing them.  They were hot panther pink thigh high boots incase Barry has forgotten.

    Last time I talked to Barry was at the show in LA and he said he was going to stay down there until Wed.  He mentioned that he was coming up to Portland after that for a few days.  I'm hoping he'll give me a ring when he gets in to town so I can take him out for a drink.  We all know how much Barry likes FREE beer!  :bananasmi
