B/E Body sheetmetal interchange revisited
« on: September 05, 2006 - 10:33:04 PM »
Several items have been said to be different almost the same and the same for 70-74 Ebodys and 71-74 B bodys. Is the front floor pan the same? Will it interchange? Are the rails the same front? rear? Cowl? Firewall? I would like to know for sure for all of these items and if not what are the differences? Mostly i would like to know if a complete floor pan would be the same from a 71-74 B body to use in a 70-74 cuda?

Thanks again all

cowl & firewall are the same
not sure on the rest , the front frame rail I believe will swap
floor pan is different for sure

corrected , the firewall is similar , cowl is different for sure , different plastic covers are used for both
I still believe the floor is different

I did some measuring on my 72 Satellite and my 73 Challenger.  It doesn't look like they will interchange.  I thought they did; but they don't.  Chryco is right.

OK Neil,

I'm with you here. The seats bases are different between E and B-bodies, so it only makes sense that the floors would be too. The B-Body seems like it would be a tad bigger on the floor pans too. What did I miss??

the width would be similar , it may be the same length to the body seam but doubtful , but the seat bases are different so the floor should be too

In my 71 parts book they say they are the same also. Does anyone have 72-74 parts book to see if they are the same floor pan?

Thanks Again All

I did some research and car comparing. Here's what I found out.  The 71 and 72 B-body and all E-bodies share the same front floor pans.  This is true for the 2 dr, 4 dr. or wagon B-body.  In 73 the B-body got it's own front floor pan and the E ,of course, stayed the same.  The B front floor pan appears to be mounted lower in the body causing the need for different seat brackets.  The center trans tunnel is different in the rear portion from B to E.  The rear pans are shorter in the Cuda over the Challenger. The trans tunnel is also shorter in the Cuda.  All frame rails are different between the E and B-body.
