E - B-Body 8-3/4 Questions
« on: September 07, 2006 - 08:17:13 AM »

With a very possible 416ci stroker engine on the way I'm starting to think about how best to get the hp to the ground. I will more than likely run the 'Cuda down the strip more than once so it will be a street/strip car.

Questions: If I find a complete drum-to-drum B-Body 8-3/4" rear end will this "simply" bolt into the 'Cuda?
If not, what other parts are needed? Also, what year B-Bodies are the "best"? 1968-72 differentials?

Last but not least, would 315/50's+ fit into a B-Body rear on a 'Cuda? If I could get away with a relocation kit on my 8-3/4" rear now I would go that route, cheaper and possibly easier? With a relocation kit what have you guys squeezed into your E-Bodies?

TIA,

You need the 1" offset spring hangers and shackles. They can be found from a few places. Then it bolts right in. I currently run 295-50-15s on 15x10" wheels, I thinkthe offest is 3.5", but my rear is not B body, it's narrowed B. The spring perches are B body, so wicth wise your fine. I'm just not sure where the factory axle flange lands. I have a B dana I can measure tonight if that helps. That's going in where the 8 3/4 resides eventually. I have fit 10.5Wx30 goodyear slicks under the 1/4 on my 70 before, I think 315-50s would go with the right offset wheel.

Yes the earlier b-body rears are better as mentioned above, but they simply do not just bolt right in.  You do have to do a spring relocation in one form or another.  Why not just run what you have but move the springs inboard?  Do you not want to have to weld on the axle?  I'd buy a perch kit (unless you can professionaly cut off what is on there) and move them to where I need them to be.  Then modify the front spring hanger by welding in the spring relocation kit into the frame rails.  I've seen this done and it looks stock, if done correctly.
