My own LED tails
« on: September 09, 2006 - 07:16:26 PM »
Well I got to thinking and tinkering and developed my own LED tails for the Challenger.  After talking with quite a few different vendors and such I settled on the strips for now, but I'm testing out the durability.  Couple of resistors and diodes and of course the leds and wiring and I was good to go.  I probably have about $34 into this project.

After this little experiment, I feel that I could make a set for just about any Mopar.  Not sure about the looks and I'm sure there will be some haters out there.  Great thing is it takes no time to go back to stock.

Let me know what you think.

I think it looks good. I like that you have your own signature on your car. Nice touch.

I'd really like to see how it looks with all of the tails switched over to LED.

it gives it a look similar to the 70 cuda with the 3 strips of light
 looks good though  :2thumbs:
there must be some kind of diffuser material that could be used in there to blend the light points out ?

Looks like you did some good work but I thought there was suppose to be a HUGE difference in luminescence & I don't see that much difference in the pics. Are they a lot brighter in person than the ole incandecents?

I have been thinking about doing the same.  Can you post some pics outside with the sun shining for comparison?

Otherwise it looks great.

It sure gives it a custom look.

Maybe you could lay it out like this

so it wouldn't have the Cuda three stripe look...just my 0.02

Well I'll answer some questions here.

As far as brightness goes, it is as bright as the regular bulb, but the light is spread out better.  You can see the regular bulb concentrates the light in the center, but the LEDs the light source is spread out.

The intensity from tailight to brake light is a difference.

You know you got me to thinking, I could speel out YOU  LOSE and I just might try, but it could be over the top.

I was also thinking on changing the style of lighting for a more custom look.

or just do the perimeter better and leave the middle strip alone

x                 x
x                 x

anyway it was an experiment in seeign what I could do, how it would look and what can be made better.

Would more smaller bulbs make sense?

I'll post some pics and directions for you.  The principals will be the same, just depends on what type of materials you use.

I looks good, can the strips be longer to follow more of the contour of the lense? To fill it out more.
