Work completed 9-10-2006
« on: September 11, 2006 - 09:59:17 AM »
Well, I received the shaker hood conversion kit from Harms a couple weeks ago, and since this the last major piece to complete for the body work, I figured I better "Getter' done!"

If anyone has followed what I have done to my car, you would know that I converted my flat hood to a shaker last year.  At that time, I used the kit that was available.  Then Harms came out with one that I have to say is way far superior.  The kit they supply is very well thought out and comes with a CD with instuctions and pictures of the process.  Anyone with some patience can do this.  I am so glad I spend the money on this one, because the other kit I have say is kind of like the difference between playing with Duplo blocks compared to Legos.  The Legos and Harms kit is just way better quality and fit.  Luckily, my measurements from the last attempt were not off much too!

Here is what I have done so far. The trim ring adapter is installed, the underhood brace is in, and a coat of Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator on.  Next, I plan to Bondo and work some areas that I had to do rust repair under the hood and prime for paint underneath.  Then flip the hood and install the trim ring. Then finish the outside body work to the hood and paint.  If everything works out well for me this week, I should be totally finished with the hood by Sunday.

I got the NHRA Chassis Certification guy to inspect and certify the Beast for another 3 years.  It is certified down to 8.50 seconds.  Never need that, but that is the certification.  Also had to buy and install a new fuel pressure regulator, adjust the carbs, and I also changed the oil & filter.   Next job to be done is I need to bleed the brakes and check all wheels for a possible small leak....  I'll let ya know how that turns out......      :cooldancing:

The Dark Horse Project:

I got more sandblasting done on my car! The bad news is that I found more holes around the perimeter of the windshield. Grrrrrr... more work. Oh well, it's another issue I saw coming up. I'll post pictures tomorrow when I get the chance.

Princess Auto is having a Grand Opening sale here in Kingston this week! I'll be able to pick up an 18 inch sheet metal brake for about $20. May even convince the better half to let me buy an auto-darkening welding helmet - $58!

from 9/1-9/10:   Finished repairs/maintenance of my commuter Neon. Blew out a steel section of brake hose in Aug, but I wanted to get customer work out before I fixed mine. Replaced hose, blew out steel line feeding said hose. The only rusty parts of the bottom of that car were the stupid steel lines..Neon Owners take note! it blew out during a panic stop from highway traffic.
Next, shop/garage cleaned up, stuff put away, etc.
Sat I unloaded the next job off my trailer. '68 fastback barracuda, 383 4sp (no, not factory) going to be TX9 black. Sunday was stripping day, so 1/2 of car is stripped to bare steel, found bent trunk lid from a rear hit. Lid was bought from parts dealer, so we'll see what happens with that one.
This week is more stripping, and fix brakes on wifee's truck, then it's off for a golfing weekend in VT.
