Hello From Baltimore Maryland
« on: September 12, 2006 - 02:57:44 PM »
I heard about this site over on car domain and figured that I would give it a try. I have a 1971 Challenger R/T Plum Crazy (I know there are an abundance anymore), it was originally born with a 383 Magnum then upgraded to a 440 Magnum 5 years ago. I also own a 1985 Corvette that I bought back in 1987, but since getting the challenger I drive it very seldom. The challenger is just so much more fun to drive.

I have one question though that I have been trying to research to no avail and thought with all these experts I should have some luck. I know I know, get to the point  . There are four reflectors on tail light assembly and see these on others so assume that they are supposed to be there. Although, it appears as if something happened to one of them and someone replaced it. The problem is that the three original ones are orange and the newly added one is red. Questions : 1) Are these supposed to be there??? 2) What color are the supposed to be ??? 3) What are they called and where can I purchase them ???

Hi Guy,

I'm in Glen Burnie. Those reflectors are a bug-a-boo for 71 owners. I believe they should be red, but often fade and crack.

If it's the red one's you are talking about that are faded, I have a little trick to help you.
Years ago, I went to the biggest Hobby shop I know of in town. I went to the model paint area.
They had a really good selection there. I found one paint in particular that was a translucent Red.
Like the color of Hummingbird red nectar. I had one of those compressed air spray cans that you just pour your own paint into and tighten. Did a few light sweeps of the translucent red on the inside of the lens and
Waa Laa!!..They looked new. In fact, they were even a little brighter looking than new lenses yet looked new. Cost...$4.00 approx.

Thanks for the compliments on the car, it has been alot of work. Although, it is definately a labor of love. Yes, the plum crazy is pretty, but I am just seeing too many of them of that color anymore. The two respondents with the maroon/violet/or whatever are really unique and catching my eye. Fantastic looking. I will try the spray paint idea (what have I got to lose) - Thanks. Glen Burnie - Eh. Do you shoot in any pool leagues down there ???

Very good looking Challenger..................I think the color is just fine.............My original was FE5  red  back in 1970 so I think the one I am working on now will be too.   Did you do the work on the car or get lucky??/?  Nice either way..........David   :2thumbs:

In reference to whether I did the work myself or got lucky, it was a little of each. To begin with as far as I am concerned anyone who has a Cuda/Challenger/Charger is lucky.
I found the car on the web and it was pretty much as you see it today. I have had to do several things so far (steering coupler repair, idler arm, fuel sending unit, fix the tach,
new cam, etc.). I will continue to do work to it to bring it up to my own personal taste. Which leads me to my next question (you all probably remember the shell answer man, well I am the reason he came into existence - I always have questions). I am going to sell my 85 Corvette, but before doing so I am thinking of putting the rims off that (will have to resize and put in follow-up post) and putting them on the Challenger. I will have to use an adapter to pull this off - Any opinions ???  Thats what I am enjoying abut this sight so far - Plenty of opinions and all at the least constructive as opposed to some of the other sites.
