Old home video showing what a '70 Challenger R/T 383 can do.

Hi guys,

Not sure if you've seen this before but this looks like an old home video of a '70 Challenger R/T with a 383, 4 speed that this guy got for $800!

What a deal!  :faint:

Don't know if I should say "far out, cool!" or cry.....

That guy is treating the car like a total newbie....hope it went to a better home afterwards.

Wish I could too!  I wonder when the video was made?  I'm guessing somewhere in the late 70s or early eighties, when Mopar abuse was deemed normal.

Wierd, looks like the car has a Six Pack airfilter set up.  Not sure if it's for real.

Do they really know what engine is in there?  They call it a 383, a 340, a 318 and a 273.  :dunno:

 :roflsmiley: You're right, I didn't notice that!

It looks like a big block, though.  Distributor's in the front with about 7 feet of wire going to each plug.

If they had any inkling that there was a 440 in there I'm sure they would say so.

"Cool video dude" ! Just a couple boys out having fun with a fun car, they didn't hurt it a bit and they had the brains to do it out of town and were careful to realize when other traffic was around. I don't abuse my Mopars but if you don't put them through some "exercise" on occasion what's the sense of having them? A little tire smoke never hurt a solid strong running motor. Thanks for the vid. and some "related" memories.  :2thumbs:  :clapping:

Man!  LOVE IT!  :ylsuper: Takes me back "in the day" when my ride was a daily driver and I wasn't afraid to leave some rubber behind!  Now I just wish I could drive her, PERIOD!  One of these day's she'll be back on the road.

It's probably a 383, since they refer to it as such several times.  I think the other references were just when they were joking around.  The 6-Pak air cleaner has a 4-barrel intake sitting under it, so I'd imagine it's a "Poser".

You do have to look at it this way; If you found a V8 4-speed driveable car (anycar)for $800 then you would not care if you broke something.  Plus looking at the quality of video, style of clothing, and hair cuts, I would guess the this video was taken in the 80's, which means the value of the car, even if it was a real R/T, would not have been very high.

I liked it too.  They could have edited half of it out but I guess that is part of the charm.

A couple of things I noticed, the steering wheel thingyed off to the left while driving straight, the car wandering back and fourth while it comes to a stop and of course the shifter that pops out of gear like some invisible ghost has a hold of it.
I loved the billows of smoke coming out of the top of the wheelwell and I love the Coyote Duster air cleaner  :2thumbs:

The perfect Mopar video !!!  (I thought my mustache was cheesey)

I need to go out and drive around today. I'm in the mood to spin the wheels abit   :burnout:
