Custom rear seat belt question.

I'd like to put shoulder belts into the rear of the Challenger when done so the kids will be a little safer and I'm trying to come up with a good solution.

Does anyone have any good ideas or any vendors that have a solution for this problem?

you copuld try adapting a system from a convertable or similar & bolt the recoil to the suports inside the trunk under the package tray

I think I might use them in mine.  The wife said I had to have shoulder belts for the kid(s) to ride in the back.

CUDA JAS , They look like they will work pretty good. Just have to figure the mounting out for the shoulder belts. (Put a helmet on and your good to go).....not a bad price either....Simpson or Impact may make something too.....

I have been trying to do a little research on a similar question.   From what I am reading, to pass inspection, the car needs DOT approved harnesses.  Most after market harnesses are SFI approved but not DOT approved.   Not sure if this would apply to the back seats.   Does anyone have any comments about that?  Is this true?

I do know that if they are not installed correctly, they may actually do more damage than good.

I also know that Schroth make some DOT approved harnesses and you may find a solution from them.

I am not sure how your state does their inspections but I have never seen anyone looking at the seat belts when we had inspections here in florida. As long as there was seat belts I think it was just fine. Here is another seat belt web site to consider.

Racing belts arent street legal in NY, i have seens tickets issued for wearing them since they dont satisfy the seat belt law. Also isnt supposed to pass the annual safety inspection.

On the other hand, depending on how old the kids are, I'd be concerned that a shoulder belt might catch them by the throat instead of restraining them at chest level.

I would love to find out a setup for both front and rear seatbelts.... Getting my stock belts is going to be CRAZY expensive..

Oh I agree, The kids would be in a boster seat if required.

I agree with King Troll. We never check seat belts on our inspections in WV. It IS West Virginia though. Could be different in them anal states like PA and CA.
