New AAR Cuda project-Updated pictures she is finished!!!!
« on: September 16, 2006 - 11:31:08 PM »
Just thought I would let you guys know we got a new project.  It is a AAR Cuda.  When we bought the car we knew it was rare but did not know how rare until we started talking to Jeff at the AAR registry and Barry with the T/A registry.  This AAR is painted B-7 Blue which we found out is 1 of 3 known in that color.  The other 2 B-7 Blue AAR's are Candian built and are still in Canada.  This one is a US built AAR.  Also the other 2 AAR's have blue interior and this one has black interior.  My husband is restoring this back to factory.  He is using all the original parts that he can.  This AAR has a lot of the hard to find parts with it.  We thought we would have to find some different fenders because the original ones on it were in sad shape but my husband was able to fix them.  We also thought about buying a reproduction fiberglass hood but my husband was able to save the original hood also.  In about a week it will go to the paint shop.
Our AAR has the #'s matching engine but not the #'s matching transmission.  It also has both fender tags and it came with a broadcast sheet but when we bought it we looked at the sheet and found out it is for a Vitamin C (EK2), 4 speed AAR and our AAR is an console automatic.  We are trying to locate the owner of the car that we have the broadcast sheet for.  If we find that car we will give them their broadcast sheet.  We are going to make a color copy of the sheet to have with our car because it is a factory mistake and we found out it is very common for the AAR's to have the wrong sheets.  We have also notified the AAR registry about the broadcast sheet and they are watching out for our correct sheet.
4C has volunteered to post pictures for me.  I really appreciate you 4C.
We are going to sell this car when my husband gets through with the restoration.  Hope everyone enjoys the pictures and I will post more as my husband progresses.  He has already refurbished all of the parts for the car.  Now we just have to have the body and paint work done and then he can reassemble the car.  He should have it done in about 6 months or less.  Enjoy.

Amazing how such a rare car was able to survive for 35 without falling into the wrong hands.

Wow!  Really cool story!  If it comes out like your other cars it'll be jaw dropping purdy!  :2thumbs:

:clueless: What is B-7?  Is it like a darker B-5?  Pardon my ignorance.  :-[

Thanks everyone for the compliments.
Super Blue,
Yes, B-7 is a darker shade than B-5 blue.
As you can see from the pictures the body is in pretty good shape but it did not start out that way.  My husband did the sheetmetal work on this car about 12 years ago.  The owner of the car wanted my husband to do the sheetmetal work and then he was going to have it restored later.  It sat for about 12 years and then we found out it was going up for sale so we bought so we could restore it and put it back on the road.  Who would have thought we would get this car after so many years.  It is in good hands now with my husband restoring it.  Will keep you guys posted.  Thanks again for all the nice compliments.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.  We took the AAR to the paint shop.  Hopefully it will be ready in a couple of months.  Can't wait to see it with it's new B-7 Blue paint.  Will post more pictures as we get them

gb70,
We will be getting the AAR back next week.  The guy we took the AAR to in November promised the car would be done by the middle of January.  We decided by the end of March it wasn't going to get done so we pulled it back out and it is now with the guy that has done our show cars.  We were going to use him in the first place but at the time he could not get to it.  We are very happy that it is in the current guys hands.  The car is painted.  It will be buffed out this weekend and then the guy will shoot the black on it and we can pick it up after that.  After we get it back to our house we will get more pictures and post them here.  It looks awesome now but we want you guys to see it after it is buffed out.  Now comes my husbands favorite part.  He enjoys putting the cars back together.  We have 2 months to get the car together before Carlisle.
Does anybody know the color of the paint dabs for the torsion bars on the AAR?  We think it is Magenta.  I will post more pictures real soon.

Sorry to hear the first person painting the Cuda did not work out but if you have done business with the person who just painted it you will end up not being let down with the quality of his work I'm sure. Hope you can get it together in time Carlisle as everyone will want to have a look at it up close. Pictures never look as good as seeing the car in person.

71340RT,
We are so glad we have the painter we have now.  He does fantastic work.  Now we know the car will be done right.
My husband will try as hard as he can to get the car done in time for Carlisle.  He works really fast.  He did Blofish in 3 months.  Thanks everyone.

Blofish is an amazing car. Literally the coolest Cuda I've ever seen.
