Would You Clone a 73 'Cuda into a 71?
« on: September 17, 2006 - 07:33:16 AM »

Would You Clone a 73 'Cuda into a 71? Just curious as to what you guys think? This is for my 'Cuda of course.
I know it would be expensive and take more time but the end result would be awesome.

I would also get a new fender tag made, one of the "fun" ones and have it say [1971 Cuda Clone] nothing else.
Purists of course would know from the dash VIN etc but 90% of the people who see the car would have no idea.

Give it to me straight, would you or wouldn't you. It would look like a 71 and I'd call it a 71 Cuda Clone, that's what it is. I know some guys don't like it but, yeah, you can't please them all. With so few made and prices staying high you can see how more and more guys are thinking about this route. I'm not 100% going to do it by any means, just a thought and while I'm painting and doing body work, now's the time.

Cheers,
Carl

If I had a complete solid model I say NO.  If I was working with an incomplete something that most of the pieces were going to have to be replaced anyway  I'd say why not.    :grinno: WARNING THIS IS THE OPINION OF A OLD CANTANKEROUS CONSERVATIVE WHO SQUEAKS HE'S SO TIGHT.

  :grinyes:

Oh yea I guess the 90% don't matter anyway & the purist won't like it soooo you lookin for 10% of non-purists to givadam?  :roflsmiley:

I have my dream car, Lucy.  I love 72-74's but the twin headlights can't be beat.

Looks like an overwhelming no, I agree but wanted to confirm it. I would like a 71 one day and the job we'll do to the 73 should give me an awesome trade + cash situation, though I know once we're done I won't be selling it.  :grinno:

No need to rant off at me guys, it's a poll - vote. Opinions are one thing.

For your info I voted no also.  :smokin: Like I said, 72-74's are awesome, I like them over the 70, now.
The grill has more center "eye" piece which fills it out more IMO. Just, I like the dual headlights of the 71 better.

A 71 will be on my "to get" list, in time, that and a black 68 Charger R/T.

NZ440R/T,

No!

Stick with the 73 look.  There are too many 70-71 clones already.  Sure you're in Australia but it still will be very popular model has it is.  I love to round taillights that the 72-74 have.

Nope. We'd have to disown you if you did that. ::)

Well... no disowning, but I still don't like the idea.
