Nope.

The temptation is there  :grinyes: , those '71s are pretty nice, but so are the '72-'74 Cudas.

How much do you think it'll cost to do all the work?   Hemi Hunter mentioned the grill alone is $3K.  That's a lot of $$$!

Is it worth it in the end?  Sort of like plastic surgery:  It's all vanity (Just for looks.).

If you would do that, you have to go all the way...nothing worse than a half-converted cuda. That would mean the headlites and grille and all the required pieces (includes header panel), the rear taillight panel and tailights,front and rear marker lights, the fender gills, the seats, rallye dash.  You'd need the correct rallye centers if using them. You'd have to make it so that the only way to tell is by the VIN and tag. Lots of $$ and work to do it RIGHT. You would never recover the cost of converting it, it will always be a 73 no matter what you do to it. My vote is leave it be.

Hey Larry, if I "did" have it done you should know by now I don't do things by halves. Would be new fenders, gills, valances, lower rear 1/4's for the indicators, taillight panel........

Thanks for everyones input, I won't be doing it. The grille's restored are worth $5,500 USD, then you've got fenders, tail lights and the countless other items. Not worth it in a big way, I do love the 72-74's but once again I love the double head lights (that's why Challengers (all years) are better) lol.

It's your car, your money and at the end of the day your call. I am not in to clones but I do believe in building what you want. I have a 73 that I am starting to build and since it is not a numbers matching car I will build it like I want. For example, I will change some of the things that I did not like about the 73's like the bumpers and side markers, mine will have 71 elastomeric bumpers and 70-71 side markers. I will also add a spoiler, maybe an AAR hood, a 5 speed and a 426 Hemi. I know that the purists out there would be outraged at the changes that I am making but that is ok. I have one simple rule when it comes to mopars, as long as the owner loves thier car then it is perfect. I am sure what ever you do you will have a great car.

Yip, that's one reason I would consider it. Mine is a clone as is, a real BS23 car which means bugger all to me, no #'s engine or trans means no #'s car to me. Others seem to think a fender will suffice but I don't approve.

Yip, even Lucy was made how I wanted her. I have 71 center caps in the rallyes etc
The Cuda has a Go-Wing and will also have the 712 rallye wheel set up.


I'll definitely be keeping it as a 73 'Cuda.  :cheers:

No. A 71 is my dream car.But 71's are WAY to much money, even for a project. So i would be just as happy with any year e-body cuda. But if i had a 73. All id do is pull in the bumpers, paint the car black and drive it!  :burnout: :bigsmile:

Apparently I am evil. I took a perfectly good ’74 and made it a ’70. Of course I agree that a hybrid would be distasteful. With the exception of the VIN and the interior, I am trying to erase all hints of its true vintage. Here’s a peek at how it’s coming along. The conversion set me back about $5000.

It's funny you put it that way because I sold all my '70 stuff and made over $5000.  I wonder if any of my 'CUDA parts went to you   :dunno:

 Glad you decided against it NZ, your car is awesome looking as is. I like the fact though that you build them the way you want though.
 I see nothing wrong with adding different year stripes, wings, spoilers etc, to make the car more personal to you, I just wouldn't modify tail lights or front ends.
 I have a 70 Duster with the 70 rear wing, but I put in a 71 Shark tooth grill, and it will have the 71 stripe kit on it too, why??...because it looks ALOT better than the 70 regular grill and the 70 stripe kit is just plain boring. And since the 70 and 71 Dusters look exactly the same it's not really a big deal.
 I'm sure you'll find a way to get a 71 Cuda, or a Black R/T Charger to add to your collection.  :2thumbs:

I guess im a minority here, i like all the grilles, but wouldnt want those ugly azz paint can lid tail lights. IMO that was one of mopars worst styling ideas since the early darts. I would just change out the tail light panel and whatever was neaded to change to the earlyer tail lights.
