Take photo's of:
The engine bearings (They were date coded)
Rod casting numbers (Look for paint inspection marks on the rods too)
Tops and bottoms of the pistons while still in the original bores
Cam - Any markings or stampings you can find, especially on the ends
Oil pump pickup while installed
Keep track of what hole everything came from on all parts (lifters, pistons, etc,)
Valve springs while still on the heads (look for painted stripes)
Most important to me....TAKE ALLOT of photos of the external bolted on componants, valve covers, intake, water pump, exhaust manifolds, etc. for reference when you get back to assembling and detailing the engine, look for areas that got factory paint (or not) bolt head colors and markings/locations, and part numbers, date codes, casting numbers on small partsetc. it will help you a TON later on when re-assembling and detailing it.
None of this is really neccessary because 90% of the parts are usually replaced in a top to bottom re-build, but it's cool trivia for a numbers guy like me.
