My new Challenger toy
« on: September 18, 2006 - 07:39:20 PM »
Here are some pictures and info on my new toy, a 70's challenger funnycar originally owned and raced by the famous Kenney Goodell.

Kenney Goodell from Tigard, Oregon, ran an iron 426 Hemi on Nitro with a B&M Automatic Transmission from 1970 to 1972. The Fiberglass Trends body originally was painted blue for 1970. It then was painted purple and orange for 1971 with Kenny Youngblood lettering. Goodell was one of the first to break the 200 mph barrier in the Northwest!

Lou Sgro picked up the car I believe in the late 90's and ran it at tracks all over the country. The car turned out constant low 7's et's it the 1/4..  http://www.sgroracing.com/web/Web_pages/Photos_then.htm

Lou sold the car to a few buddies of mine that were going to continue racing her, but ran into some challenges. So they decided to part with her and I picked it up. My plan it to fully restore her and continue on with exhibition shows, etc.

If anyone has some old school pictures of this car when Kenney Goodell was racing her, please let me know.

Here are some pictures of her currently.

Thanks,

HEMI6T8

So, what's the plans for this bad boy? Restore to show, restore to drive/race, clean up and race?

I would love to own it even if I never took it down the drag strip. Congratulations on getting a nice piece of history.

Thanks everyone.

Chryco Psycho - I believe that car has a 118” Chromemoly Woody Gilmore Chassis....

NZ440R/T  - My plan is to restore as close as posible to the days of how it was back in 71 when Kenney raced her, with some minor modern modifications. I would like to take her down the track, do burnouts etc. as an exhibition. I am pretty sure I wont be turning her back into a nitro car, but she will be on alcohol for sure. The motor needs to be gone thru and will be built to run hard, but not to the point where I need to tear her apart very often, if at all. Cant aford to break things.

Thanks

Cool! Thanks Hemi6t8, sounds like what I'd do if I owned the car too.....it will definitely attract attention if give a few of the older tree guys some good memories.  ;) Very nice.....keep us posted on progress when you can.

:wow: That is one awesome car!!!!!   :2thumbs:

I love the old funny cars.  I think when I was little my first model car was a funny car.

Silly idea, but if that was mine I would be tempted to drive it around the block at midnght just for kicks.  Would have to rig up some headlights, at least.
