G33 fender tag mirror question
« on: September 21, 2006 - 01:15:57 PM »
I was looking over my '70 Challenger convertible's fender tag yesterday.  My car has dual chrome racing mirrors.  The tag has a "G33" code which I show as being a LH remote racing mirror.  Is it safe to assume that my car's passenger side mirror was added at some point? Also from the codes is there any way to tell if my car would have originally had a body colored mirror or if the chrome could be original?
One more code question came up, I have a "M31" code which I show as being a "belt molding".  I don't have a belt molding on my car.  Is the one shown on this similiar car the M31?

Are these belt moldings hard to find if I wanted to put on my car?

Yes, those are the belt moldings on the top of the doors in the ebay auction.  We found ours on ebay (they don't come up that often) and paid over $300 for the pair 4 years ago.

OK, I am still a little confused.  I was thinking the belt molding would be the trim that runs along the character line of the car to protect from door dings, like this red 'vert has?  I have the trim on the top of the doors, which I thought was all part of the A63 SE type trim package that my car has, unless you are talking about the wide polished chrome pieces on the top of the front areas of the 1/4 panels adjacent to the back seat?  (See picture of my convertible)

Your pictures show the side body molding. That is tought to find if you need it.

Belt molding is a 7 piece set. It is chrome molding along the top of the doors, and rear windows, it also runs behind the front fenders, and the back of the hood. The complete set is tough to find too.

I think I am clear on the side molding issue now.  The molding shown on the red ebay 'vert is the M33 side body molding if I am reading the code chart correctly.  I don't have a M33 code on my car's fender tag so I am not missing that. :2thumbs:
My FK5 convertible shown in the picture has both the A63 and the M31 codes.  I thought the A63 included the rear gray finish tailight panel, the front valence trim, and the back of hood and front fenders trim like an SE?  Is the M31 then the top of the door and top of rear quarter panel adjacent to the rear seat polished SS trim pieces? Were the wheel opening moldings, door edge guards, and bumper guards part of either the M31 or A63 option?
All these trim pieces are present and in good shape on my car, so I don't need to break the bank finding any of them. :clapping:
Still interested in finding out the answer to my G33 mirror question.
Thanks!

G33 is the chrome mirror, G34 is the painted mirror.

The molding shown in your top photo is V5X.

A63 did include the rear tail panel trim.

Wheel lip moldings were standard on all 1970 Challengers except 340 cars and T/As, so they are not coded on the tag.

M05 door edge moldings are only coded on the broadcast sheet.

Rear bumper guards were standard, but with front bumper guards you also got the protective rubber insets on the rear guards. It was a seperate option, and again on the broadcast sheet only.

T/Ake care,
Barry

My pleasure, but I made a typo. I just edited it, I typed G32 - but I meant G34 for the painted racing mirror.

I have seen the code on Challenger tags with "issues", but I do not recall every seeing an original fender tag with the code. Not yet anyway.....

My '71 has the body side molding with black insert, so all the side metal has the rivets, but my replacement right front fender does not.  The molding itself is incomplete and damaged.   While I do like how it looks, I haven't decided on keeping it (meaning 4 of 6 piece being replaced and getting the needed rivets in my replacement fender) or doing the work to remove the rivets and go clean sided.

Fortunately the decision can be put off for quite a while ;)

I actually have a question that is close to the topic. My car also is a G33 car and had chrome mirror installed on the passenger door, not good mirrors but those butt ugly plastic things  :puke: What I want to know is, does anyone have the diagram for hole spacing for the dual chrome/painted mirrors as I will buy a set of those to put on my car. I measured a 70 Challenger door and it was nothing like my door, It was the manual mirror though and I think the spacing is different on those. My drivers door does not provide a good enough measurement for me because instead of unbolting the mirror, someone ripped it out with the nuts attached and it distorted and enlarged the holes in the drivers door  :eek4: G33 is drivers side chrome remote right? Any help with a diagram or addy to a site that hosts the diagram would be great.
