My 71 Challenger Conv project
« on: September 21, 2006 - 08:08:46 PM »
I did my superbird project the other day and got a lot of good responce Thanks!! So Thought I would put my Challenger conv Project on. I havent worked on it in a while but heres where it is now. I will put more on when i get started back on it after I finish the sunroof superbird. I bought this Peice of a 71 Challenger conv off ebay and took a fairly soild HT I had and made a car out of it. Finding all the peices without going bankrupt is the hard part. All I like parts wise now is a set of Quarter glasses and regs. 2 corners at top inside of windshild trim. and center peice of rear boot well trim. [ I would take some with screw holes in them for top boot as most people dont want that?] I could car less as I will be driving the wheels off this very very hard as it was meant to be drove. I have 2 perfect peices that wrap around side that I would trade for all 3 peices with holes? Anyway heres some pics of progress. I will be making it look like a Indy Pace car as I love those. Car is from Indaina anyway so who knows it may have been one anyway. It was orange with white interior orig. it was a 318 car but I will be going 440. and already have most of my shaker hood stuff. Enjoy the pics.

I took the whole top sheet metal off the conv and put it on the 2dr ht so basiclly the whole bottom was replaced? Heres some more pics that will show how I did it. I got car home on feb 26 2005 as pic say and finished to where I am now on March 20 2005 Less than a month but lots of hard work. But that was the easy part now the money part starts.

That is truly amazing!  Did you also add the rear torque boxes and beef up up the side rockers because they are thicker on a convertible?

pretty neat way to save the convertible!

I have a friend in the hot rod business who took the convertible top components from a 1955 Pontiac and made a 1955 Chevy hardtop into a convertible....could not tell when done......

incredible work.....

i must say i get more of a kick out of challenger convertibles than cuda convertibles these days.  everyone and their mom talks about cuda convertibles (not that they're not cool) so i wish i could find one or two more nice chally convertibles.  as stated above, you've gotta be out of your mind, but you have serious skills.  keep up the amazing work.

:wow: I'm amazed you even looked twice at that car.  I'm surprised you didn't just scrap that baby.  After all you've done to get it to where it is today I'm amazed you haven't kept on it.  What is left isn't anything compared to what you've done.  I would have thought you would have gotten it to the place where you were at least driving it.  I can't wait to see what it looks like when your done.  Are you going to restorify the car adding modern parts to improve the handling and performance.  Is it going to be a sleeper or a car you know by looking at it she tears the street up?  :aarg: What other enhancements have you considered doing to this baby? :jumping:
