Murphy's Law - if anything can go wrong, it will. Just my luck

 :banghead:

Just my luck. I went to a junkyard a 2 weeks ago and ordered a roof for my Challenger.
"No Problem. Tell me where you want it cut, and we will have it ready for you to pick up when you come back."

So I called when I got back from a business trip. I ask if I can come on Saturday to pick up the roof with a truck and trailer.
The guy says "Well, I have 2 problems. The first problem is that I won't be around this weekend... The second problem is that we had a little fire when we were cutting the roof off."

"Uhhhh, how little?" I ask.

He said: "Well, we did not get it put out until it burned about 5  cars, including the roof..You might want to come out and take a look before you get it."

OK, I'll see what I can do to get out there ASAP.

So I went today to examine the carnage. Mind you, I put money down on a HT roof, as in no vinyl, so this thing WAS top dollar.

I get there and he and I have a chat, and take a walk back.
Whoa. 5 Challengers burnt to smithtereens, melted, melted, melted, melted, Charred and scarred. YIKES.
He knows he had some coin left in those cars, and he felt real bad. He offered my money back, no questions asked. I found a couple of other things there that I couuld get, so I told him I would come back next week and we can wrap up some business.

Damn stupid people. You think that if you are cutting a car to pieces with a TORCH, you would at least have  a FIRE EXTINGUISHER nearby.....

Just thought I would vent my frustrations. I have a line on another roof. We will see how it goes.

He has idiots working for him.
That's the best way I can put it. I have another story with very similar results told to me by my friend who also went there.

We are just kind of held captive by him because he's the only one "locally" who has good stuff, and he seems to be able to part with it for a decent price.
This one hurt and he knows it.

There's a few more gems I will come and get.

It took me 5 min. to remove a roof the other day with a sawzall after the interior was out of the car.  I guess they did not realize that before using a torch you should remove the interior.

Using a sawzall would be too easy,it doesnt take a brain surgeon to figure out thats a better way to go.They were probably being lazy or didnt have or want to lug a generetor to the car.

its a good thing you didn't do that. sure does suck though.

I watched a guy start torching the roof of a Mustang GT 88' (not for me) and needless to say the car caught fire and after multiple attempts to extinguish the front end loader was called in and the car was dumped in the nearby river!  Couldn't believe that no one from the local authority showed up. :dunno:  It's an urban Junkyard.

I have learned after many years that it does not pay to lose your cool with these people. Then they are not willing to bend on their prices, and are more willing to work with you. This guy -The owner- seemed really disappointed.

I found something I need in there for the price I paid for a deposit, so its all good.

I did find another roof, si everything works out. Just a matter of time, that's all.

I will be posting pics soon- hte teardown has begun!

Spotweld cutter -check.

glass removal tool - shipped.

trim removed

ready to de-roof.
