a hemi in a camper and a tow truck???
« on: September 25, 2006 - 01:34:32 AM »
I was talking to an old fart today about this camper he has that has a mopar motor in it. He says he knows its a 440 because the spark plugs go thru the valve covers.(are you thinking what I'm thinking?..LOL)

This is the 2nd time I have heard of a hemi in a utility vehicle..first was a tow truck! Has anyone ever seen a hemi in a truck ? these were both late 60's early 70's vehicles. Anyway he says if I pull it I can have it for $50 all he wants is the big generator used for the camper part. Will know more tomorrow night !

Even if it ends up being a 392, could be worthwhile.

I have also heard a story of a guy who bought two tow trucks at an auction.  Supposedly one of them had a Hemi in it.  :dunno:

Here's one in a '79 Dodge pick up that's twin turbo charged and runs on propane.

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

That one is an early hemi, probably a 392 or 354. Note the distributor at the back of the engine.

IF it is a hemi I figure it is a 392 also but these were both late 60's early 70's trucks and supposedly they were factory...but we have all heard these stories befor...will probably end up being a 2.2 in a Renault Alpine Camper ....LOL  If it is a 354 I might still use it (the new hemi is based on that design just updated )

 :iagree:

No matter what type of Hemi it could be, for $50 I would take it and put it in storage till I had the money to rebuild it.

Even if it were a 440, it would be  worth more than $50.

Most likely a 392. A fellow near my home in Salmon Arm BC has a 2 ton 58 or 59 (can't remember) for sale and it has a 2BBL 392 hemi in it from the factory. Yes you read correct - a 2BBL carb. But he says mountains of torque and unbelievable gas mileage for what it is.
