Scumacher mount problem (Hemi)
« on: September 25, 2006 - 07:47:21 AM »
I was wondering if anyone else had this issue; I installed teh Hemi into my 71 Cuda clone and the pass side valve cover is smooching the shock tower bulge. In a previous thread I mentioned how close teh booster was to teh drivers side valve cover. I understand teh booster is an aftermarket piece so my problem may be with Master Power but the pass. side is all factory and should not be an issue. What am I missing here? I would send pictures but problem is obvious.

Are they aftermarket or factory valvecovers? The cast covers are a little bigger than OEM and you may have the clearance proplem from that.

Is this a crate Hemi?  I understand that Stage V heads are a little taller also.

It is no a crate motor. I had teh block heads and crank from MP before they started making crate Hemis. The valave covers are from MP, they were used in addition to the black wrinkle and chrome versions (see picture)

That sounds kind of odd to me. I looked at a Hemi Cuda clone at Ultimate Rides in El Paso some time back, and I seem to remember there being almost 1" clearance between the shock tower and the valve cover on that car. It had the chrome valve covers.

I can guarantee you that the MP valve covers are giving you the clearance problem. It's not the block or the mounts that are causing the problem. If you switched to OEM, your problem will be cured.

What is the deal, why would MP screw with there own stuff? Isn't tough enouogh to make these things work without the aftermarket comapny for the brand hurting us. DId not hear from Schumacher yet, They had a long weekend, but I am sure they are going to say they have had no problems. My exhaust guy had teh car on a lift yesterday and thought everything looked good from underneath.

Someone else had the same problem with these valve covers. Thread was on either Hemi.com or Moparts. Read it about 2 months ago.

topcat,
was that on thehemi.com or hemi.com? I posted a while back on thehemi.com about oil filler caps, but could not find anything about valve cover fit. Hemi.com is Chyslers site and did not see anything there.
Moparts did not seem to have it either. Any idea?

The problem seems to be with the stage V valve covers.

Try this

I don't believe it was posted on thehemi.com, as I'm a moderator there and read every post (light traffic site) and haven't seen anything pertaining to Schumacher mounts there.

So how much difference is the raised valve cover on the stage V vs.the MP vavle covers then?
Sorry for the confusion of the two. Both seem to have a more boxed shape.
